Understanding Your Priesthood

Understanding Your Priesthood

Pastor Samuel Osaghae

23rd October 2011, highlights of his sermon at Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town.

Paul asked people to pray for hima nd we can apply that to missions and apostoles abroad too! Like apostle Andre in the Philippines this week...

Pray that I will go with joy. Be refreshed if you are well received.

Acceptance of the message.

Go forth with joy.

Prayer for deliverance from those who do not believe.

That He will return refreshed.

Intercession.

Proper understanding about the assignment.

The assignment in marriage is for the husband and wife to affect change in each other over time.

Husband should sanctify her with the washing of the Word.

Wife should pray fo rhte husband and see him change throuhg her conduct as Peter encourages.

Pastor Sam describes it as an 'Institution to work off imperfection in each other. Two imperfect people coming together.'

Prayer becomes relevant after giving has been done. Prosperity.

God started the giving process. He did not have you until He gave Jesus.

Jer. 17:11 – partridge that sits on an egg but not hatch it – lose everything. SO is everyone that succeeds not by right.

Understanding is the principle thing.

Esau sold his birthright for a morsel of bread, sought his blessings with tears and did not get it back. Profanity.

In the realm of the Spirit – take from the kingdom of light.

Iniquity is sin that you perpetuate, always repeat and that robs you of God's blessings.

Be aware of the devices of the devil, strategy, principles and instructions…

(Apostolic note: we need to be aware of dualistic cause and effect thinking, and rely more heavily on the intercession of Christ. if Christ within be our hope of glory, then tune into Christ's channel of intercession as well for effective prayer.)

Matthew 7:12

? ? “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. ?8? For ?everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. ?9? ?Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? ?10? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? ?11? If you then, ? ?being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Effectiveness in prayer is knowing your Father in Heaven. Then you pray with courage and boldness. It removes fear and timidity.

He wants you to meditate.

“Therefore”

?12? Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for ?this is the Law and the Prophets.

Do for others in intercession too.

Hebrews 7:24-6

?24? But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. ?25? Therefore He is also ?able to save ??to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives ?to make intercession for them.

?26? For such a High Priest was fitting for us, ??who is holy, ??harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, ??and has become higher than the heavens; ?27? who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His ?own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. ?28? For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.

He is able to save through his intercession for them. That’s how we also should operate. To save people we have got to intercede.

Our ability on earth is through his intercession. We too then as priests can intercede to fulfill our calling on earth.

A lifestyle of Priestly Intercession.

Zechariah – Luke 1:

The angel arrived and said his prayer had been answered.

He was fulfilling his priestly responsibility.

Benefit of intercession.

Motivate to be responsible for your priestly responsibility without being pushed.

Job was an intercessor. He prayed for his friends

Job 42:7 And so it was, after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, that the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite,
'My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.
Job 42:8 Now therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering;
and My servant Job shall pray for you. For I will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not spoken of Me what is right,
as My servant Job has.'
Job 42:9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the LORD commanded them;
for the LORD had accepted Job.
Job 42:10 And the LORD restored Job's losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Eternal destruction – a place of no return.

 No opportunity to change.

Hebrews 13:1

Remember them that are in bonds… body

If you are truly saved you can save others.

If you don’t know what you are saved from you can’t save a soul.

Eg. Saving someone from falling into a well.

4 Major Qualifications of an Intercessor:

1. An intercessor is someone who is able to identify –

2. Compassionately seeks to affect a change through the

3. Instrumentality of prayer.

4. To the glory of God.

A Priest is an intercessor.
