Spiritual Sonship
Spiritual Sonship
Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser, Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town. January 2025
Scripture:
Php 2:19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state.
Php 2:20 For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state.
Php 2:21 For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus.
Php 2:22 But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel.
I have had the privilege of serving with my earthly father in the Gospel. Dad coached me in sport life, and ministry and taught me God’s ways based on kingdom principles.
A central part of my training in ministry was the Life of Christ. It is the core of all our teachings and activities in ministry. We keep returning to the centre which is Christ in all we do for God, in the local church, in networking and spreading the Gospel.
1. Spiritual Sons are sent ones. The apostolic quality of an ambassador for the kingdom of God is clearly evident in a spiritual son that carries the DNA of the training and apostolic doctrine received. Acts 2:42; 2 Tim. 3:16; 1 Cor. 4:15
Joh 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
2. Spiritual sons are connected to trust in the Lord Jesus. 1 Tim. 6:20 “Guard what has been committed to your trust.”
3. Spiritual Sons can ascertain the state of the flock of Christ. Spiritual sons give a good report. Acts 20:28,29; 1 Cor. 9:7; 1 Pet. 5:2,3
4. Spiritual sons seek Christ in the centre of all their activity and belief. Eph. 2:20-22
5. Spiritual sons do not seek their own, but take a sincere interest in people, and seek the things of Christ Jesus. 1 Pet. 1:22,23
6. Spiritual sons have a proven character that has endured trials of faith and entered the kingdom through much tribulation. Rom. 5:3-5
7. Spiritual sons serve with their spiritual fathers in the Gospel over a long term, showing the fruit of the Spirit.
John 15:4,16; Eph. 5:9; Gal. 5:22,23
