Joy of your Heart

Ecclesiastes 5:20 For he will not dwell unduly on the days of his life, because God keeps him busy with the joy of his heart.
This scripture verse opens up ways to cultivate the joy of your heart.
1. Manage your heart’s priorities
It is possible to stay busy with the joy of your heart. One way to a happier life is to learn how to manage the priorities of your heart.
We are encouraged to: “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.”
Perhaps the entire passage bears relevance today more than ever:
Pro 4:20 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.
Pro 4:21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart;
Pro 4:22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.
Pro 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.
2. Focus on the Kingdom within first.
When I present life coaching events, the purpose is to refocus people’s self-actualization process. From the world’s perspective they use a pyramid, but in a spiritual way we start within and work our way out. It is starting form a sense of self-fulfilment by seeking the kingdom within and then the other things can be added. For people who spend their lives chasing goals and trying to attain to self-actualization, it may take years before an inner peace is achieved.
3. Allow Jesus into every chamber of your heart.
Even when it comes to becoming more like Jesus, this in itself can become a treadmill of dead works – running and never reaching any point of satisfaction or affirmation. To be more like Jesus we have to acknowledge His Lordship and allow Him into every chamber of our heart.
From there the inner configurations of your being can be reorganized and redecorated according to God’s original blueprint for your unique existence and then you can build on that for your future success in other realms.
4. Meditate on what makes your heart glad.
Take a moment and ask yourself: “What makes my heart glad?”
It can be a good piece of music. It can be spending time with the ones you love or even enjoying a good meal. Getting a good workout can release tremendous endorphins and boost your energy levels.
Some like adrenaline and others like a long slow walk. Whatever makes you happy, be honest about it. Rely on the Christ within your new creation to regenerate your desires and redeem your inner joy. Sin pollutes our desires and makes the feeling murky with guilt and condemnation. When you are truly guilt free, the joy remains.
5. Help others to make their dreams come true.
From a transcendent level, joy can be realized when you help others achieve their goals and live out their dreams. Spiritually, we see great joy in heaven when one sinner comes to repentance because they know the repercussions for generations to come from one decision to serve God and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
6. Find a reason to celebrate life.
Joy comes when God confirms His word in your life and people see it and rejoice with you. I like to celebrate churches and say happy birthday for every new year!
I celebrate the defeat of the enemy in people’s lives.
It makes me happy to see the inheritance of promises.
Proverbs 15:15 is a mantra that we use as a church through every situation:
Pro 15:15 All the days of the afflicted are evil, But he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast.
7. Learn to rejoice about what you believe.
The concept of joy in believing is worth looking at from scripture at this point:”
Rom 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The power of kingdom joy is that it is neither earth-bound nor evidence-related. Joy in believing comes before joy in receiving. If you are only happy when things go right, eventually, you miss out on the kingdom joy that laughs in the face of the enemy with the full knowledge that God is in control and that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28.
8. You need to feel loved.
Furthermore, knowing God loves you is a vital link to the joy in our hearts. We are after God’s heart in all things and He also gives us the desire of our hearts,
Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,
Rom 8:39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
9. Cheer up and overcome pressure!
Jesus did not shy away from suffering and He said:
John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Once you have identified the joy of your regenerated new creation heart, that is focussed on kingdom joy in believing, linked to the eternal love of God our Father, personified in Jesus His Son and His sacrifice for you on the cross, empowered and animated by the breath of the Holy Spirit in your daily walk of faith, you can carry on and busy yourself with the joy of your heart!
