Believe in the Gospel

Passage: Mark 1:14,15
Service Type:

Believe in the Gospel
Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser, Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town.

Mar 1:14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
Mar 1:15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Here are some ingredients that prepare you to preach the Gospel.
1. The fulness of times.
2. The kingdom of God.
3. Repentance.
4. Faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

1. The fulness of times.
Gal 4:4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
Gal 4:5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant law completely. He ushered in the new covenant that was based on better promises, and He became the Mediator of that Covenant to bring reconciliation between God and man, and even between men too!

While the first tabernacle was standing, people could not be cleansed of sin in their conscience. Jesus brought about the time of reformation on the earth.

Heb 9:7 But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the people’s sins committed in ignorance;
Heb 9:8 the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing.
Heb 9:9 It was symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to the conscience—
Heb 9:10 concerned only with foods and drinks, various washings, and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.

Redemption Through the Blood of Christ
Heb 9:11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.
Heb 9:12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

2. The kingdom of God.
The subject of Jesus’ preaching and parables centred on the kingdom of God. His sermon on the mount set forth the principles and values of that kingdom. His parables explained the simple truth about that kingdom as applied to everyday life.
His acts of healing and deliverance released the power of that kingdom. His sacrifice gave us access into that kingdom.
His relationship with His Father, showed us a way into the kingdom of Our Father, who art in heaven!
His kingdom comes and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven!
We seek His kingdom first, and His righteousness, and all the other things we need in this life will be added unto us.

One of the ministry mentors Dr Gray said: “If you make seeking Him the most pre-eminent thing in your life, He will take care of so many things you think you need to take care of.”

3. Repentance.
To make a full 180-degree U-turn in your thoughts, words and actions. It also has a spiritual facet of complete surrender to God’s will. It is a metamorphosis of our complete spirit, soul and body at the revelation of the love of Jesus and the goodness of God.

John the Baptist prepared the way for people to receive Jesus through his baptism of repentance:
Mar_1:4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Mar_2:17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
