Prayer Meeting: Prayer (Ps John Smiley)

Beacon of Faith Prayer Meeting
Friday 16 August 2002

Prayer is invading the impossible. God can use YOUR prayer.
Ez 22:30, 31 ~ 'So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none. Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,' says the Lord.

God sought for a man, not an army, not a church of 3000, not a company on the stock exchange. V31 ~ Prayer holds back judgment. It builds a wall around the thing you're praying for. Spot the broken walls in your society, judicial system, etc. and build it up in prayer.

We can all improve in prayer. Even Jesus could improve His own prayer life. In the garden of Gethsemane He prayed the same thing three times (that the cup may pass). Why did He pray the second and third time, if it wasn't to make sure that the Father heard him?

John 12:24 ~ Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.

During intercession we become the seed that die to our own desires and ambitions. Therefore our prayers will produce a great harvest.

A throne is established by righteousness. When you pray and forgive someone (making right with that person), you establish God's throne on the earth – in that situation you are praying for.

Luke 11:5-8 ~ The friend who asks at midnight. Intercession requires persistence.

Rom 8:26 ~ How is God's will done in heaven? Perfectly. The Holy Spirit helps us (enables us) against every form of resistance when we pray. So that God's will can be done on earth as it is done in heaven.

When we look at David's life, we see that tears are like a memorial before God. We all remember the times we cried out to God. So does He. When we cry out for a city, He takes note, because He is looking for a man to stand in the gap.

Use different forms of prayer: Prayers of agreement, binding & loosing, declarations, etc. It is important to understand the fight. Sometimes the devils don't leave immediately. Daniel had to wait 21 days in fasting, because there was a hindrance in the spirit realm. Jesus will always honour the continuous prayer of faith. Pray until you have the assurance that you will receive what you prayed for.

Prayer is hard work.
