Manhood

On the last Thursday of every month, Harvester Reformational Church holds a men's meeting. Apostle Andre ministered on 'Manhood' and gave a scriptural definition for the term which contrasts the world's concept of a man drinking beer on weekends. Find out why David was a man after God's own heart.Men’s Meeting

Topic: “Manhood.”
24 June 2004
Apostle Andre Pelser

God created male and female.
Purpose when He designed man – certain character in mind.
World is confused about the role of masculinity.

Man – out of control – Biblical model is not clear anymore.
No more absolutes.

World suffocates everything God wants to accomplish.
We want to recover what God had in mind – Biblical man based on spiritual principles.

There are qualities in men that God looks for that go unnoticed by the world.

David – a man after God’s own heart.
God made each of us distinct, yet we are all made in His image. Distinct divine characteristics in our individuality.

If society deviates from God’s purpose it will result in judgement.

1. God’s Design – found in Bible
2. Leadership or Headship; head of woman, as Christ is Head of the church.

Every man has influence. Does not mean that woman is man’s slave, but women can serve their husband under God’s authority.

1 Cor. 11:3
1 Peter 3:7

Mystery in Eph. Christ loved church…

3. Responsibility Provider:
Emotional
Material
Spiritual
Best question you can ask your wife is “how do you feel?”
Be prepared to listen without being drawn into the feelings.
In order to understand her emotions, get in touch with your own.
Talk to God about everything. Then wait on His Spirit to help you pray the right things in Jesus name. Be honest with feelings before God; creates more capacity for family’s emotions. Government of your life is on His shoulders.
Let family cry on your shoulders.

Sometimes write your prayer down and evaluate it later – check whether you have made progress.

God is interested in you; He wants you to rule and reign in this life through prayer and prophecy.
Andre delivered a note by hand to Kadar Asmal, “If you take Bible and prayer out of the schools God will remove you from your position.” He is no longer minister of Education.
Apostle Andre met contact who got him to Asmal’s PA.

God wants to talk to you about things far beyond your monthly needs.
God spoke to Abraham about things 400 years ahead.

Enoch – righteous man.
Walked with God – prophesied Christ.

4. Govern with authority.
Listen to your first reaction to what your family asks you.
A wise man does not blurt it all out at once.
Listen to your wife, have the grace to listen. Don’t make her feel that she is stupid, or she will not honour you.
Honour her as the weaker vessel.
How do you honour her when the make up is off? Tell her that she is wise. Honour her in front of family and in front of people.

P. D. Le Roux used the analogy of the Big dog with little dogs yapping around him. Big dog just looks up and carries on sleeping. Don’t have to react to everything.

Ministry – people’s problems aren’t yours. Apostle is supposed to bring the Word that is accurate enough to change lives if applied.

Ask God for understanding. You don’t understand her.

Marriage is a great mystery. Christ and the church, marriage.
Paul – 1 Cor. 14:2 says that when you speak in tongues you speak mysteries to God. Say to God – I want to talk to you about my wife: “kar abjsen kulaba brrabaourhsinepw pnsdjflj bllanaa aoosnsn.”

Talk to God about the mysterious things in your life.

Paul says, I pray in tongues much more than all of you. That qualified him to write half the New Testament.

Any country that is successful has a good transportation system.

The Holy Spirit is God’s transportation system, he takes your messages to God and brings it back.

Wait on God. The more you meditate and pray about it, the clearer it becomes. Or if God holds back the understanding, it means that He is creating the capacity for you to receive it.
He wants a relationship with you more than just solving a problem.
So you get to know yourself in your critical circumstances.

The same God who gave men authority gave them the right and the authority to exercise it.
He is motivated by Love (Christ) in the same way the husband gives himself to his wife as Christ gave Himself to the church.
Find opportunities to serve.
Exactly how does your wife like her tea?
Meat? Breakfast?

Don’t serve in the way you like alone. Serve her in the natural first, then you cam move to serving her in the Spirit as the Head of the wife.

5. Obedience (Risk)
This is one of the outstanding qualities of Biblical manhood.
Trust necessary to obey –
If we don’t shrink away from that obedience, that’s where we see miracles, glorious results and evidence of true manhood.
Miracle land is just beyond your obedience.

Sometimes when your wife or child upsets you the most the Holy Spirit will say “Tell her you love her.”
You resist. Do it half heartedly. But if you can do it whole heartedly…
Tell the child he is worth more than the expensive vase he has just broken.

Risk obeying God. Jesus learnt obedience through the things He suffered. We are not born with obedience; we have to learn it through the things that we suffer.
When He had been perfected He became the author and finisher of our Faith, salvation.

Ian Fleming – spy in WWII, he wrote novels about James Bond.

Whether you serve God or not you will suffer in this life. Might as well learn something from those things that you suffered.

6. Discipline
Lack of self discipline normally comes from the hesitation to apply the principles of self discipline.
Certain Bible principles.
Know you must do it but you don’t.
Discipline in thought first before deeds.
Take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
Try to consciously meditate on a verse of scripture or a parable. See how often your mind wanders. Then bring it back to the scripture.
Meditation should happen late at night or early in the morning.
Nana “As body needs dressing in the morning ad undressing in the evening, so prayer dresses you for the day and undresses you of the problems of the day.”
How long do you take to dress?

Listen to what you think, to what recurs in your mind, take that thing captive and check it with the Word. If not, arrest it.

Little things like, visiting with your buddy, gets late and then “My wife will be upset.” Take that thought captive ad say “No she will be happy to see me.”

Messed up at work, don’t think the boss will kill you; think about a solution ad present your solution to him.

Replace fear thoughts with Word.

Discipline in finances; relationship with God; words; actions; sport.

God rewards diligence in seeking Him.
