ScriptureReading:
IPeter 1:13-16
‘Whereforehaving put out of the way once for all everything that would impede the freeaction of your mind, be calm and collected in spirit, and set your hopeperfectly, wholly, and unchangeably, without doubt and despondency, upon thegrace that is being brought to you upon the occasion of the revelation of JesusChrist; as obedient children, not assuming an outward expression which does notcome from your inner being [ as a child of God ] and is not representative ofit, an expression patterned after that expression which you formerly had in theignorance of your passionate desires, but after the pattern of the One whocalled you, the Holy One, you yourselves also become holy persons in every kindof behaviour, because it has been written and is on record, You be holyindividuals, because, as for myself, I am holy.” Wuest’s Expanded GreekTranslation of the New Testament.”
Meditating on this passage written by apostle Peter, shows us ways to work with God’s grace to reveal Jesus Christ.
1. One way to revealJesus is to get other things out of the way!
Whatimpedes the free action of your mind?
Howdo we get a clean conscience?
Heb9:14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, whothrough the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse yourconscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Whatis a New creation?
2Co5:17 Therefore, if anyone is inChrist, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, allthings have become new.
Whatold things must pass away in our lives?
Think about some aspects of your life that God has made new…
2. Remain (cool) calmand collected no matter what!
InHawaiian surf culture, the older men teaching the young boys to surf giantwaves give them this advice:
“Keepa cool head brudda!’
Whenwe are mocked for our faith apostle Paul writes:
2Th 2:1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and ourgathering together to Him, we ask you,
2Th2:2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day ofChrist had come.
Thereason we can stay calm is because we have an anchor of hope that Jesus is resurrectedfrom the dead and will return to receive us up in glory.
3. Set your Hope uponHis grace
"set your hope perfectly, wholly, and unchangeably, without doubt and despondency, upon the grace that is being brought to you upon the occasion of the revelation of Jesus Christ"
perfectly: He has perfectedforever those who are being sanctified,
Heb 5:8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things whichHe suffered.
Heb 5:9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation toall who obey Him,
