It is possible to live victoriously
If you look at the average Christian today, does it inpsire you to become one? If you look at your own life as a Christian, do you really think others would like to accept Christ? Why has Christianity become watered down, lukewarm, powerless; why has the salt lost its savor?
Perhaps we need to sit and think why Christian lives are not victorious and what can be done about it. I do not think Christ died for us so that we can live defeated, miserable lives, no matter what we have to face.A Life of Victory
One of the worst things in life is to be defeated. It is terrible to loose! Most people have given up the fight against sin and sickness, against evil and perversion, because they have tried to combat these dark forces in their own strength and lost. Most Christians have stopped witnessing because they have been too unsuccessful at winning souls and have been put off by the Smart Alec remarks of unsaved people. They had doors slammed in their faces too many times. Most people have withdrawn into a life of accepting their fate instead of overcoming their worst enemy: fear! Most people have decided that the thing they have always dreamt of is beyond their reach and have resigned them to going without it.
Today I am a bearer of good news: nothing shall be impossible if you believe! This is not my theory: it is the word of God. Jesus Christ taught it to his disciplined ones.
Today I want to state categorically: it is possible to live a life of victory! No matter what your circumstances are like today, Jesus Christ has power over life and death and he can change things for you if you put your faith and trust in him!
Here is the secret of a life of victory: (I wrote these words at 5 a m on 22nd of June 1982 while Nola and I pastured the first church we ever planted in Bassonia, Johannesburg.)
The Lord my God, my strength, my song, has now become my victory! Your victory does not lie in your own efforts, but a person becomes your victory! That is a new kind of concept that is hard to receive for the natural mind, because the natural mind cannot receive things of the spirit.
The Lord that has become your victory is the Lord God, mighty in battle
He is a mighty fortress to those who trust in him
He always causes us to triumph in Christ Jesus
We are made to be more than conquerors through Christ
We are able to do all things through Christ who strengthens us continually
It is no longer I that live but Christ that lives in me
He does the works, he performs the miracles
He tells me what to do and what to say and where to go
His Holy Spirit within me leads and guides me day by day
His Spirit shows me things to come
Therefore I am perfectly yielded to him
He has given me power over all the power of the enemy
Nothing shall by any means hurt me
Through Christ I have been able to do everything I have done up till now
Through Christ I am able to do what is required of me right now
Through Christ I am able to do what is required of me in the future
He shows me the pattern of things to come
He helps make the right decisions
Because I am in perfect submission to him I have perfect rest
We walk in perfect agreement and perfect harmony
His grace is sufficient for me
I have sufficient time to do everything I have to do in life
I pray and read the bible and he reveals his will to me
He teaches me to walk in his ways
I observe what I must do in the bible
I meditate in his word day and night
Therefore I make my way prosperous and I have good success
There is no reason why I should be discouraged or be dismayed
For God is with me every step of the way!
There is no reason why we cannot live a life of victory through Jesus Christ
We should stop blaming others and give our lives wholeheartedly to Christ
When you struggle in your own strength to overcome things in your life you are not relying on the strength of Christ. When you make excuses you are hiding and blaming others like Adam and Eve in the garden after they sinned.
Victory over sin
Sin shall not have dominion over you because Christ died for our sins to reconcile us to himself!
There are three absolutes as far as sin is concerned:
All have sinned and come short of the glory of God
Romans 3:9
Romans 3:23
The sin that at first seems so harmless becomes intoxicating and eventually controls your life. Sin must be acknowledged and repented of. You need to renounce your sins before God and ask him to forgive you.
Sin makes us slaves
John 3:34
The one you obey is your master. If you obey sin, it has become your master.
You are free to choose your own master
Romans 6:16
Christ can break the chain of sin in your life
God has a plan of salvation
He designed the plan in heaven
That plan works perfectly
Everyone who fits into God’s plan can live victoriously
We should all learn to use what God has put at our disposal. Everything Christ died for is at our disposal.
There are three things that keep us from being victorious
Ignorance
Unbelief
Rebellion
If you are ignorant of the enemy’s devices he will outwit you. But if you are willing to be taught (meekness and humility are keys to becoming teachable) you can gain knowledge that will defeat the enemy in your life. He only has a few weapons he can trust in and Jesus stripped him of all those weapons and made an open show of him as a defeated foe. His bluff is so strong that he deceives people into thinking he is powerful. He is a liar and a cheat. He does not fight fairly. He deceives people through false doctrines and false teaching brought by false prophets. He blinds the minds of people so that they do not accept the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ which can set them free.
II Corinthians 5:19
Jesus restored us to himself
He paid for all our sins
We must simply believe that he did it for us
His Holy Spirit replaces old sinful desires with His love
His Holy Spirit kills the sinful desires that cause our defeat
Romans 8:10
We do not have to obey our old sinful passions
Romans 8:13
Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery in the USA. He got killed in the process, but today America is still known as the land of the brave and the free! Jesus Christ abolished slavery to sin, sickness and Satan and I want to add that he also paid the price to free us from our old sinful, selfish selves! Yes, Jesus died in the process of liberation, but, here is the good news: he rose again! Slavery is no issue any longer!
Romans 8:11
I Corinthians 10:13
God is faithful: He does not allow us to be tempted above what we are able to bear but with the temptation makes a way of escape that we may be able to bear it!
God makes a way of escape if you call on the name of his Son Jesus Christ
He will remove people from your life who oppress and harm you
He will cause the object of your lust to turn against you so that you run away from it and into his arms of love
He will draw you into the prayer closet
You will have this strange desire to be alone and pray and read his word
He will send someone to warn you
He will speak to you through dreams and visions
His Holy Spirit will whisper answers and solutions into your ear
He will speak words of comfort and encouragement
He will deliver you from evil
He will forgive your sins
He will guide you continually – with his eye! As you look at him he will s
