He tasted death
By Apostle Andre Pelser, 30 December 2012
Christ’s “tasting” death, implying His personal experience in voluntarily undergoing death,
Heb. 2:9 gives us the true results that benefit us today:
Hebrews 2:9-16
9 But we see
Jesus,nwho was made 6a littlelower than the angels, for the suffering of death ocrowned
with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste deathpfor everyone.
Bringing
Many Sons to Glory
10 For it was fitting for Him,qfor whom are all things and by whom are all things, in
bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvationrperfect through
sufferings. 11 Forsboth He who7sanctifies and those who are being sanctifie tare all
of one, for which reason uHe is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 saying:
v“I will declare Your name to My brethren;
In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.”
13 And again:
w“I will put My trust in Him.”
And again:
x“Here am I and the children whom God has given Me.”
14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He yHimself
likewise shared in the same, zthat through death He might destroy him who had the power
of adeath, that is, the devil, 15and release those who bthrough fear of death were all their
lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For indeed He does not 8give aid to angels, but He does
9give aid to the seed of Abraham. 17Therefore, in all things He had cto be made like His
brethren, that He might be da merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God,
to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 eFor in that He Himself has suffered,
being 1tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
[1]The nine true results of Jesus tasting death on behalf of everyone:
- He became perfected through suffering: He tasted suffering
- He is bringing many sons (and daughters) to glory: He tasted resurrection
- He who sanctifies and they who are being sanctified are one: He tasted sanctification
- He is the captain of our salvation: He tasted the responsibility of captaincy
- He is not ashamed to call us brothers: He tasted the human condition
- He destroyed him who had power of death through dying for everyone: He tasted facing the devil and
overcoming him - He releases us from the bondage of the fear of death: He tasted death
- He gives aid to the ‘seed of Abraham’ because he suffered being tempted (to those who are being
tempted): He tasted temptation - He is a merciful and faithful High Priest and makes propitiation for our sins: He tasted the effect of
sin even though he was without sin: he became sin for us so that we can become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (II Cor 5:21)
The Amplified Bible
v.10. For it was an act worthy [of God] and fitting [to the divine nature] that
He, for Whose sake and by Whom all things have their existence, in bringing
many sons into glory, should make the Pioneer of their salvation perfect
[should bring to maturity the human experience necessary to be perfectly
equipped for His office as High Priest] through suffering.
[2] V.13. My trust and assured reliance
and confident hope shall be fixed in Him.[3]
Application
Today you can put your trust in Him to perfect that which concerns you and to sanctify you wholly;
you can put your trust in Him that He will set you free from the bondage of the fear of death;
you can put your trust in Him to make a way out of temptation for you; you can put your trust in
Him that He will come to your aid – because He tasted death for everyone! Is the captain of the
Salvation Team! He will bring you to glory! He will bring you to maturity in the human experience!
He pioneered this new and living way for all who believe in Him. He tasted death that we might taste
and see that the Lord is good! (Ps 34:8/ I Pet 2:3)
