Two becomes One – Origins of Faith Series
One of the greatest prayers we can pray is to become one with Christ.
Another great prayer is for a man and woman to be married in union before the Lord. This is the origin of family. It is such a strong symbol, Ap Paul compares it to Jesus and the Church.

Here are some Origins of the 2 becomes 1 that will strengthen our unity in marriage and church:
1. Marriage is the key to fruitfulness and multiplication. God blesses two that become one before Him.
Gen 1:27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Gen 1:28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

2. The two become one in a geographical place with responsibility:
Gen 2:15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. To end and keep also means to labour and guard it. There is work and service involved in your geographical vicinity, and you have the grace together to treasure and celebrate what the Lord gives you together. (tend: to till, work and serve: ‛âbad. H5647. The Hebrew word H8104 shâmar – to watch preserve and protect.)

3. Two is better than one! Ecc. 4:9
Gen 2:18 And the LORD God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him."

The interesting derivative of the word means to announce in detail, publish as a messenger, the declare and make known. “To speak in the face opposite” means that there are moments in a strong union where both parties can announce, declare and inform exactly what is needed in order to help each other move forward. If this is not done. The marriage will suffer.
Maintaining love and respect during such straight debriefing moments is essential.
Chantal and I have Dashboard meetings monthly where we speak frankly about our lives and family, ministry, business interests and any subject that is relevant to us. We keep notes about it and share parts of the meeting with relevant circles, and other notes are private for us to build our union. There needs to be sacred talks that only you are privy to, so that you can build long term trust and operate in union. These are not cards to use in a fight, or to reveal in front of friends and other family to place your partner in a bad light in any way. When a relationship has broken down to that level, seek help.
A strong couple can talk things through and face the problems together without blaming each other.

4. Two can become one become two comes from one. Also two plus two is three! And four and five and ….!
Gen 2:21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.
Gen 2:22 Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
Gen 2:23 And Adam said: "This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man."
Gen 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Gen 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

5. Reflections of Christ and the Church strengthens unity.
Let’s look at the New Covenant understanding of the concept and how marriage reflects the relationship between Jesus and the Church:
Wives and Husbands
Eph 5:22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
Eph 5:23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
Eph 5:24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
Eph 5:26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
Eph 5:27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
Eph 5:28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.
Eph 5:29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.
Eph 5:30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.
Eph 5:31 "FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH."
Eph 5:32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
Eph 5:33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

6. That is why sexual immorality is so destructive:
1Co 6:15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!
1Co 6:16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For "THE TWO," He says, "SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH."
1Co 6:17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
1Co 6:18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
1Co 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
1Co 6:20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

7. Jesus quotes Genesis and explains more:
Mat 19:3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?"
Mat 19:4 And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE,'
Mat 19:5 and said, 'FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH' ?
Mat 19:6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
Mat 19:7 They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?"
Mat 19:8 He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

8. What is God doing in the earth today? What is the new thing?
We have a prophetic Word in Jeremiah that speaks to me of the church orbiting Christ:
Jer 31:22 How long will you gad about, O you backsliding daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing in the earth— A woman shall encompass a man."

The new thing is revealing the true sons of God that the world is hoping to see according to Romans 8:19. The world wants to see what this new creature in Christ where Gentiles and Jews are one in Christ, where different cultures get along and thrive in a Christ culture, where the Church truly becomes the bride of Christ, ready and adorned in perfect unposted, unblemished glory, to receive the soon and coming King Jesus.
Rom 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
Rom 8:20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
Rom 8:21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

The question is are you ready to become one as a family, as a church, with Christ in all, in you?
