Bye-Bye Babylon!

Service Type:

Bye-Bye Babylon!
Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser, Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town. 18th September, 2022.

The Great Prostitute and the Beast
Rev 17:1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, "Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters,
Rev 17:2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication."
Rev 17:3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
Rev 17:4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication.
Rev 17:6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.
Rev 17:7 But the angel said to me, "Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.
Rev 17:8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
Rev 17:9 "Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits.
Rev 17:10 There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time.
Rev 17:11 The beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition.
Rev 17:12 "The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast.
Rev 17:13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.
Rev 17:14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful."
Rev 17:15 Then he said to me, "The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.
Rev 17:16 And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire.
Rev 17:17 For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled.
Rev 17:18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth."

Ancient Babylon
The name of the great capital of ancient Babylonia, the Shinar of Gen_10:10; Gen_14:1, other names of the city being Tin-dir, “seat of life,” Ê (ki), probably an abbreviation of Êridu (ki) “the good city” (=Paradise), Babylonia having seemingly been regarded as the Garden of Eden (PSBA, June 1911, p. 161); and Šu-anna, “the high-handed” (meaning, apparently, “high-walled,” “hand” and “defense” being interchangeable terms). It is possible that these various names are due to the incorporation of outlying districts as Babylon grew in size.

Probable Date of Its Foundation
According to Gen_10:9, the founder of Babylon was Nimrod, but among the Babylonians, it was Merodach who built the city, together with Erech and Niffer (Calneh) and their renowned temples.

The place where they built the Tower was called Babylon, on account of the confusion of languages. Here we have again the statement as in Gen that the meaning of Babel is “confusion.”

One of the chief works of Nebuchadrezzar was the building of Aiburshabu, the famous procession street of the city, which extended from the Ishtar gate to E-sag-ila. It was a great and magnificent causeway, built higher than the houses. Walls lined it on either side, which were decorated with glazed tiles, portraying lions, life size in relief. The pavement was laid with blocks of stone brought from the mountains. This procession street figured prominently on the New Year's festal day, when the procession of the gods took place.
A knowledge of the work Nebuchadrezzar did serves as a fitting commentary to the passage in Dan_4:30 : “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built?” He had made the city one of the wonders of the world.
The two sieges by Darius Hystaspes and the one by Xerxes destroyed much of the beauty of the city. Alexander desired to make it again a great center and to build an immense fortress in the city; but in the midst of this undertaking he was murdered, while living in the palace of Nebuchadrezzar. The temple, though frequently destroyed, was in existence in the time of the Seleucids, but the city had long since ceased to be of any importance. See also BABYLONIA.

Here some ways to escape the corruption of Babylon:

1. Through the precious promises of His Word
2Pe 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
2Pe 1:4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2. Through Prophetic Vision
Without vision my people perish –
KJV: Pro 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
NKJV: Pro 29:18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.
Vision: H2377 châzôn (pronounced: khaw-zone')
From H2372; a sight (mentally), that is, a dream, revelation, or oracle: - vision.

Root word to gaze at: H2372 châzâh (khaw-zaw)
A primitive root; to gaze at;
mentally to perceive, contemplate (with pleasure);
specifically to have a vision of: - behold, look, prophesy, provide, see.

This is why Babylon is drunk with the blood of the saints and martyrs:
Rev 17:6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus
Just like the spirit of Jezebel that killed the prophets and raised up false prophets, Babylon seeks to rob God’s people of their vision and prevent them from accomplishing God’s purpose through the church.

3. Through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of Speaking in Tongues
One of the meanings of Babylon is “confusion”. Ancient Babel is where they built a tower to reach heaven, and God came and confused their languages.
Confusion is a work of the flesh and is earthly sensual and demonic.
Jas_3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
We use the Word of God to discern the source of confusion: envy, self-seeking and every evil thing.
Do you know people who are always claiming to be confused even when you have explained yourself over and over again? Often you are dealing with envy or self-seeking. They refuse your point of view or revelation if that is the case.

God is not the author of confusion but is a God of order.
1Co_14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

When the Holy Spirit was poured out on all flesh, all the nations could hear the disciples speaking about the wonders of God and prophesying – that is a key to escape the corruption in the world today, and overcoming Babylon’s spirit that makes people sell out for selfish reasons. You don’t need to cheat to be successful. You don’t need to be corrupt to do good business. You can walk in God’s ways and He will make you prosperous and make you rich and add no sorrow to it. There is much sorrow in the business world when they can no longer do business as usual with corrupt deals that rob the poor and make it impossible for others to work. That’s why the kings of the earth will mourn and weep over Babylon. The party’s over for them, but it is just starting for us!

Rev 18:20 "Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!"
Rev 18:21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, "Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore.

The unity that comes from being Spirit-filled and Spirit -led is amazing. It is a requirement for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, to be with one accord and patiently waiting upon the Lord.
Act 2:1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Praying in tongues helps us on a daily basis to:
• Enlighten our understanding
• Guide us by the Spirit’s wisdom versus our own.
• Remind us of the things Jesus said
• Unlock mysteries about our lives.
• Engage in spiritual warfare.
• Decode revelations in the Word.
• Show us things to come.
• Prepare us for our tasks ahead.

Apostle Paul said: 1Co 14:15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.

The Holy Spirit is a Helper in all things. Jesus sent Him to be our guide and our friend through our journey on earth. Tongues is a code language that gives you access to the operating system of faith. Ask a Spirit-filled believer to pray with you in Jesus’ name for the baptism of the Holy Spirit in its fulness. When you get saved it is by the Holy Spirit, every foundation stone in your temple is laid by His power. Every new phase of your growth is ordained and released by the Holy Spirit. But the full immersion in the Holy Spirit is an important event in your Spiritual walk that often follows baptism in water in obedience to Jesus’ way. There is a shift in the heavenly realm for you and you see more and experience more fulness of God in every aspect of life. Go for it!
