A Successful Man

Oh, God prove that you are with me by making me a successful person like Joseph!
Having defined godly success and prosperity as being something more than making money and knowing that true success includes peace and joy and right standing with God, let us see what lessons we can learn from biblical characters such as Joseph.
A Successful Man
Genesis 39:2-5
2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand.4 So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority.5 So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian?s house for Joseph?s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field.

Genesis 39:21-23
21 But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph?s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing.23 The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph?s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.

Oh, God prove that you are with me by making me a successful person like Joseph!
Having defined godly success and prosperity as being something more than making money and knowing that true success includes peace and joy and right standing with God, let us see what lessons we can learn from biblical characters such as Joseph.

The Hebrew Word for prosperous is tsalach and it means to break through or go over and advance so that you become prosperous. God wants you to break through and go over and advance! He is the Lord of the breakthrough and He will help you overcome things in your life so that everyone can see your progress!
We are on the advance not on the retreat!

The Lord added
Joseph?s name is Yacaph in Hebrew and the connotation attached to his name is ?The Lord has added?. It refers to increase and continuance. There is a sense of permanence in the meaning: the Lord added again and again and did not stop adding until they increased! Some translators say that Joseph?s name means that God shall add wisdom: but that is not all. God shall add wisdom, prosperity, peace, purity and whatever God wants to add!

The devil also wants to add things to lives. He wants to add sorrow and sadness and give you burdens and guilt feelings that will destroy your faith in God. The devil adds things to your life and then tells you to blame God for it. He tells you to do things in such a way that you think it is your own design. He is subtle and full of evil and his only job description is that he is a thief and comes to do nothing else but to steal, kill and destroy everything you have!

Jesus on the other hand has a different job description: He has come to give us life and life more abundantly!

Choose whom you will serve!

Divine Grace
Joseph found grace in the eyes of the ruler of Egypt. The word Grace in Hebrew is chen and it comes from a root word tobe that means a happy state both in the realm of the senses as well as in the realm of the spirit. God?s grace upon your life will make your life pleasant and fulfilled in both realms! God wants you to prosper and be in health just as your soul prospers! (3 John 2)

Tobe also refers to intellectual progress, to good understanding. Furthermore it speaks of knowing what is agreeable so that corporate welfare can be achieved! What would any MD of a company give to have someone like Joseph work in his company! God blessed Joseph?s boss for Joseph?s sake!

Tobe also means valuable in estimation, bountiful and rich! How could a boss fire someone who has all these qualities? I tell you he would rather fight to keep him!

The apostolic grace God has bestowed upon the church is something we can all draw from: Paul says you participate with me in the grace given to me. The Grace of God is upon our lives and upon the lives of our children! Do not be afraid of loosing your job ? be afraid of loosing God?s grace! The corporate experience we have every Sunday of the grace of God being bestowed on us when we worship the Lord and listen to His Word advances our cause and makes us prosperous and successful in this world! Look at Joseph?s success and realise God wishes the same success for you!

Genesis 41:37-46
37 So the advice was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants.38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, ?Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God??39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, ?Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.40 ?You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.?41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, ?See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.?42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph?s hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck.43 And he had him ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, ?Bow the knee!? So he set him over all the land of Egypt.44 Pharaoh also said to Joseph, ?I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.?45 And Pharaoh called Joseph?s name Zaphnath-Paaneah. And he gave him as a wife Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On. So Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.
46 Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

Become a blessing
Joseph?s Egyptian name means God speaks and He lives! What a testimony!
When your boss or your teacher or your family has to admit that the God you serve speaks to you and that He is a living God ? you become a witness that can turn things around wherever you are! You become a blessing to all around you! You fulfil the promise God made to Abraham that he and his descendants would become a blessing to all the nations of the world! You have something that is valuable wherever you go! It is not your talent, not your personality, not your skill or your looks: it is the grace of God upon your life!

Corporate source
That grace is available to all who will humbly submit to the perfect plan of God to be part of a body of believers where Jesus Christ is the head! The grace of God comes upon us corporately and expresses itself individually. We draw on a corporate source to partake of it individually. Our source of grace is centered in the throne of God and we approach it boldly!

Hebrews 4:16
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

In the Old Testament we find individual expressions of God?s mercy and grace that came from a corporate source of belonging to Israel and serving God according to His statutes and commandments. In the New Testament we are all Israel who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ who took away the middle wall of partition between the Jews and the Gentiles and made us all one person in His body which is the Church. This mystery has been hidden for ages but it has been revealed by the apostolic doctrine based on divine revelation given to Apostle Paul. He was chosen to reveal this mystery to the Church.
