The Redemptive Names of God

The Redemptive Names of God

By Apostle Andre Pelser, Preached at Harvester Reformational Church in Cape Town, on the 5th of January 2014

We get to know the character of God through His redemptive names.

Jehova-

Elohim – He is the eternal creator with no beginning and no end. Hebrews 11:3 tells us ‘by faith we believe the earth was created by God.’ We cannot reason out how creation began. It is much better simply to believe in the creator. If you do not believe in the creator, when you need God to create something new for you, He will not be there because you do not believe in Him!

Adonai –  The Sovereign Ruler of the universe: he holds everything in order by the power of His word!

Jireh – The Lord is our great Provider! When Abraham walked up to the mountain to sacrifice his son of promise, Isaac asked him: ‘father we have the wood, but where is the sacrifice?’ Abraham answered: ‘the Lord will provide a sacrifice for Himself!’ Because Abraham believed it was accounted to him as righteousness. When he raised the sacrificial knife to kill Isaac, the Lord spoke to him and said: ‘Abraham, do the boy no harm! Lift up your eyes and see there is a ram caught in the thicket! Use it for the sacrifice!’

That ram was there before Abraham got there! Your provision waits for you where God leads you! Your provision is already provided for by Jehovah Jireh!

Nissi – The Lord is our banner of victory! My beloved is mine and I am His and His banner over me is love! We are marching under His banner of love, because love conquers all! We love the Lord because He first loved us!

Rapha – The Lord our Healer! He is anointed to heal the broken hearted and set the captives free, to bring deliverance to those in bondage, to open the blind eyes! He took away our diseases and carried away all our sicknesses so that it might be fulfilled what Isaiah prophesied: by His stripes we are healed! Believe the Lord today for your own healing, in Jesus’ Name!

Shalom – The Lord our peace! Jesus said, ‘my peace I give unto you – not as the world gives!’ The world cannot give peace. Only the Prince of Peace can! It is part of His Kingdom of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Peace is a precious commodity that money cannot afford. Do not be anxious but in everything through prayer and supplication let your requests be made known to God with thanksgiving and the peace of God will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus! Do not let anyone steal your peace and joy!

Tsidkenu – The Lord our righteousness. He (God) made Him who knew no sin (Jesus) to become sin for us, so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Righteousness is a gift we receive by faith. Jesus has become our salvation, redemption, holiness and righteousness (I Corinthians 1:30) While we are still being sanctified we are already made righteous before God because we put our faith and trust in the work Jesus Christ did for us on the cross! Your new surname is ‘Righteous!’

Mekaddishken – The Lord is our purifier. Like silver and gold is purified, so He purifies us and removes all the dross from our lives so that only pure gold and silver remains!

Sabaath – He is called the Lord of hosts! He is the Commander of the heavenly army! Ten thousands of angels obey His orders. He has given those angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways!

Shammah – The Lord is there! When there was a drought and famine in the land, the Lord told Elijah to go to the brook Cherith (‘to cut’ referring to cutting a covenant) for He commanded the ravens to feed him there! When my father was called to pastor a small church in Florida on the West Rand, there was no parsonage or salary. He did not want to go at first, but prayed about it and the Lord gave him this verse! On the strength of that promise we moved from Benoni to Florida. It was the most wonderful time in ministry for them. He built a parsonage, number 466 Ontdekkers Road, Florida Park, and the Lord filled the church with people and the bank account overflowed by the time we left Florida!

When the brook Cherith dried up, the Lord told Elijah, go to Zeraphath for I have commanded a widow to provide for you there! Your provision waits for you where the Lord sends you to! Your provision is ‘there’!

Elyon – The most High God is His Name! There is no one higher than Him. You have a friend in high places! Jesus took upon Himself the form of a servant and humbled Himself by becoming obedient even to the death of the cross. Therefore God gave Him a Name that is above every other name, that at His Name every knee should bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord! He is above the name of your sickness! He is above your lack! He is above all that people say about you to discourage you! He is above every demon in hell that tries to destroy you! He is above your despondency! He is above your fear of the future! He is the Lord Most High! Put your trust in Him today!

Raah – The Lord is my Shepherd and do not want another one! He leads me in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake. He leads me to still waters and pastures green. He prepares a table before my enemies; my cup runs over and He anoints my head! Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will be in the house of the Lord forever!

Hoseenu – the Lord is our maker: he made us! He prepares us for what we are about to face. He prepared good works for us to walk in before the foundation of the earth! He will perfect that which concerns you!

Eloheenu – The Lord our God! Theologians like to refer to Thomas as doubting Thomas, but he only doubted once! Then when he saw the holes in the hands of Jesus he was the first person ever to confess Jesus as Lord and God! He said: ‘My Lord and my God!’ Then he spent the next 41 years of his life in India before he was brutally murdered by Brahmin priests outside Chennai. We should no longer call him doubting Thomas, but rather imitate His faith in confessing Jesus as both Lord and God!

Eloheka – He is the Lord your God! The heathen king asked Daniel after throwing him into the lion’s den: ‘Daniel, was the Lord your God able to protect you from the fierceness of the lions?’ And Daniel replied: ‘May the king live forever! The Lord whom I continually serve sent His angel to lock the jaws of the lions so that they could not hurt me!’ Then the king made a decree that the Lord of Daniel is the only true God!

Elohay – He is the Lord my God! It is wonderful to know someone who has the Lord as their God, but it is far better to know Him as your God! The personal knowledge of God is something money cannot buy! Paul says he gave up everything that was precious to him in order to know God!

Philippians 3:7-11

?7? But ?m?what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. ?8? Yet indeed I also count all things loss ?n?for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ ?9? and be found in Him, not having ?o?my own righteousness, which is from the law, but ?p?that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; ?10? that I may know Him and the ?q?power of His resurrection, and ?r?the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, ?11? if, by any means, I may ?s?attain ?2?to the resurrection from the dead.
