Reminders for Godly Living
Paul writes to Timothy about doctrine and instructs him to express his disapproval of silly myths and doctrines of demons.
He says: “I am writing these instructions to you so that (If I am detained) you may know how people ought to conduct themselves in the household of God, the pillar and stay (prop and support) of the truth.”
1 Timothy 3:14,15 Amplified Version of the Bible.
In this passage Paul gives us clear reminders for Godly living, as well as the rewards…

Follow these reminders and warnings and conduct yourself according to God's ways in His household.
In the “last epochal periods of time” some will depart from the faith. How will they depart?
People depart from the faith in the following ways:
“Giving heed to spirits that lead into error.”
Deluding (Delusion = false belief or holding of it, source of vain hope, hallucination. Oxford.) and seducing spirits. (Gr. 4108 “planos” = wandering, misleading, leading into error, corrupto, deceiver. Thayer’s Greek Definitions.)
Pro 12:26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour, but the way of the wicked seduces them.
Eph 4:14 so that we no longer may be infants, tossed to and fro and carried about by every wind of doctrine, in the dishonesty of men, in cunning craftiness, to the wiles of deceit.
Simple minded and immature people, allow themselves to be transported to a place of deception through the trickery of men that seduce using outward impressiveness.
Jesus’ ministers should help such people grow up so that this will no longer be the case.
“Teachings or doctrines of demons.”
Doctrines that demons teach.
1Jo 2:24 Therefore what you heard from the beginning, let it abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you will abide in both the Son and in the Father.
1Jo 2:25 And this is the promise that He has promised us: everlasting life.
1Jo 2:26 These things I have written to you concerning those leading you astray.
1Jo 2:27 But the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as His anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true and no lie, and as He has taught you, abide in Him.
Don’ just run after every new idea. Get your foundation solid and continue to build on that. You need accurate preaching in your life. The passage in 1 John does not mean that you never receive any teaching again.
The author was actually telling them to continue in what he taught them from the beginning, and warned them not to let any old smooth talker try and change their foundational principles.
Let the word of God be your plumb line of truth. Jesus said “I am the Way the Truth and the Life.”
“Through hypocrisy of liars.”
Joh 8:44 You are of the Devil as father, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and did not abide in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own, for he is a liar and the father of it.
What is truth? Pilate’s question to Jesus. Joh 8:32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
“Searing their own conscience”
Like a hot iron brands cattle, so sin brands you and leads you into slavery. John 8:34 says that whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. Jesus has paid the penalty for your sin, that if you believe in Him and His work on the cross, you can go free.
Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God,
Rom 3:24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus;
“conscience4893 seared with a hot iron” – When people proclaim lies such as those mentioned, they render their moral consciousness insensitive.
The world desensitizes us through the press, the different media, through the corruption that is in the world through lust.
“Forbidding to marry.”
God has made marriage a holy union of two people becoming one in the Lord.
Young people are often told to first “live their lives” and chase their career before getting married. In this day and age, this would include having several damaging relationships before finding the ‘right one.’ Someone told me that once, and I am glad I did not listen to them. My wife and I were married young and have experienced life together by the grace of God.
The two shall become one flesh. Where two are gathered in My name there I AM!
“Commanding abstinence from foods”
Self control is a fruit of the Spirit. Apply it to a Godly lifestyle.
We cannot make laws about eating certain kinds of foods, then judge others by our own standards. If you make other people fee guilty about what they eat, you are propagating a doctrine of demons.
Halaal or not Halaal? Who cares about the effect of a dead ritual that means nothing except bondage to those that practise it?
Some say bread is unhealthy, then why did Jesus pray: “Give us today our daily bread?”
Some abstain from milk, then why would God give Israel a “Land flowing with milk and honey?”
God owns the cattle on a thousand hills…
Rom 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Add – kingdom of God is not in meat and drink, but righteousness; peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Let no one judge your liberty – with regards to eating.
“foods which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.'
1Ti 4:4 For every creation of God is good, and nothing to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving.
1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified through the Word of God and prayer”
“Be constantly reminding the brethren of these things”
Good servant (Amplified has ‘minister’ of Christ Jesus; nourishing yourself by words of faith & following the good teaching.)
“Shun old wives tales or irreverent legends” (profane and impure, godless fictions. Amplified)
“Be exercising yourself with a view to piety towards God”. Pious – devout, religious, mindful of duty towards parents. Oxford Dictionary.
Remember your duty towards your heavenly Father and your brother and sisters in the Lord. Remember also those who have begotten you in the faith and reciprocate.
Rewards for following these reminders include an assurance of the following:
• Godliness is profitable to all things.
• God’s Word is faithful and true.
• God is your preserver.
All the pleasures of sin are for a season, and when sin has conceived it brings forth death. Living a Godly life has repercussions in this life and in the life to come. Choose His way of life and take these reminders to heart.
