Leadership Meeting: Leadership (Ps John Smiley)

Home Cell Leaders Meeting
Sunday 18 August 2002

Leadership is influence, even if you only influence a single person. David's leadership started at age 17, but it did not happen instanly. He had to grow into it. It was a 13 year process. David lived in 5 different places during this time. Each place symbolises an aspect of leadership.
Bethlehem – Faithfulness in natural things. This is where David tended his father's sheep every day. God anoints the attitudes of our hearts.

Cave of Adullam – Faithfulness to other people's needs. David and 400 others hid in the cave when Saul wanted to kill them.

Ziklag – Betrayal: overcoming offence. After their city was plundered and their wives and children taken, the men picked up stones to kill David. But that same day the Lord restored everything back to them. Your attitude towards betrayal will spring-board you into your destiny. David always encouraged himself in the Lord before he inquired of the Lord.

Hebron – Hebron is a natural and spiritual high place. There the people made a covenant with David, saying 'We are bone of your bone and flesh of your flesh'. From there they wanted to take Zion. Unity is born of the Spirit of God. Crucify personal agenda.

Zion – Zion was a stronghold of the Jebusites. Even Joshua could not evict them when he had his turn. But David did. Evict devils from your communities.
