Secret Place
Secret Place
Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser, Harvester reformational Church. Cape Town
My dad wrote a song that has these words:
“Locked away in secret, hiding in a secret place, there in the Spirit beholding His face, gaining new strength to run the race!”
Here are some spiritual coordinates to locate your secret place in God. REMOVE – APPROACH -WAIT -FOCUS -RESPOND!
1. Remove distractions.
Close the door. This also means mute your phone, hold all messages and stop all interruptions. There is light that comes on in a studio when artists are recording music or performing. Give God the respect and attention He is due and complete the conversation. Don’t rush out of His presence to do all the tasks. You will find that when you have spent a little time in focussed prayer and communion with your Lord, all the other things tend to happen quicker and you have your energies directed in the right way. You won’t feel so tired and overwhelmed anymore.
Cast down arguments, thoughts, high things that exult themselves against the knowledge of Christ in you, your hope of Glory. That hope then helps take you into His presence:
Heb 6:19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil,
2. Approach His throne of grace. The holy of Holies was never accessible in the Old Testament. Communing with the Lord in the holy of holies was reserved for the High Priest who had to make sacrifices for himself and the nation before he could enter. Even then, he had a rope tied around his waste in case God did not receive his sacrifice and he fell down dead in His presence.
When Jesus died on the cross the temple veil of the Holy of Holies tore from top to bottom, giving all those who believe in Jesus, access to God’s presence.
Even more so, Jesus gave us Hs holy Spirit to abide with us forever and lead and guide us into all truth regarding how to commune with God.
Abraham and Sarah, Moses, David and Solomon, Daniel, Elijah, Isaiah and all the faith heroes we read about in the Bible, understood a deeper connection with God, some even were called God’s friends. What an amazing testimony one day to be called God’s friends?
Jesus once said to His disciples.
Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
3. Wait on the Lord. The first aspect of love is patience. Love God. Commune with patience and position yourself in His presence with an attitude of patient tranquillity. This is something to practise. When it comes to fulfilling purpose and living out our calling, we also have to consider the timing. The right thing at the wrong time can cause damage. My grandfather was also int eh ministry for many years. He used to say: “I wait for a green light.” When God gave him a green light of confirmation, in whatever way God spoke to him, he would act on the word. You will know them by their fruit – he had good fruit in his life and ministry and left an inheritance for his children, physically and spiritually.
4. Focus on Jesus. It takes tremendous discipline to focus on the Lord amidst the storms of life. But when we do, we walk on water. When we don’t, we begin to sink!
Mat 14:30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
Mat 14:31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
5. Respond. James 1:22 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
Really hearing what God says means you write it down, pray about how to do it, and get on to actually perform His word. There is a process of ‘doing the word’ that the Holy Spirit will reveal to you. It becomes a wonderful partnership in your life. You start to see what works and what doesn’t as you move carefully forward, in the walk of faith. One step at a time.
I hope this helps you to enjoy and protect the secret place you have in your inner sanctuary with the Lord. It is a wonderful seat of spiritual peace and authority that nothing can shake. We operate from that place with the Lord. Grace and peace to you!
