Growing in Confidence
Trevor Goddard, an old South African cricket captain, told Aje at the national primary schools cricket week in East London (1989), ?Confidence comes through experience?. Aje represented Northern Transvaal Primary Schools. Throughout his cricket career we saw that saying come true: he grew in confidence.
David told King Saul when the king doubted his youthful ability to face the giant, Goliath, ?I killed a bear, I killed a lion with my bare hands; this uncircumcised Philistine is nothing!? He obviously grew in confidence! He knew how to use his slingshot and he knew the power of a projected missile! He also knew that the giant was literally so big-headed that he could not miss his head with the stone!
Growing in Confidence
1 August 2004
Apostle Andre Pelser
If you keep on trusting God long enough you become confident that God never fails you. Your confidence grows.
Ephesians 6:12-18
In order to win the spiritual battle you have to put on the armour of God as Paul describes it. Girdle of truth
Paul calls it the girdle of truth. Truth keeps your entire Christian life together. Romans 8:32
It is God gaining ground in your life. Jesus explained where we can find truth:
John 17:17
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Breastplate of righteousness
Protect your heart with the breastplate of righteousness. The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14:17).
Romans 5:17
We reign in this life through Christ. We do not have any self-righteousness but our righteousness is by faith in the finished work of Christ.
I am continually right with God, not because of my own good works, but because I believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. While I keep my faith in Christ, God sees me in His Son: who can condemn me?
I reign in this life because I believe I am the righteousness of God in Christ.
Feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace
God created man. Man sinned by disobeying God and was cut off from God. Jesus Christ gave His life as a ransom to reconcile sinful man with a holy God. Those who believe in Christ shall be saved and made right with God. Romans 3:23
If we trust in Jesus our entire family will be saved!
Acts 16:31
The Holy Spirit will make Jesus Christ real to us.
John 1:12 ? To as many as received Him He gave the power to become sons of God.
Acts 4:12 ? There is no other name under heaven among men whereby we must get saved! Eternal life is to know God and Jesus Christ, whom He has sent. John 17:3
The Holy Spirit will convict you of sin, but also of righteousness: as many as are led by the Holy Spirit are children of God.
As you practice presenting the Gospel of Peace, you will grow more confident in winning souls for Christ. Confidence comes through experience. Train someone to win souls, who can train someone else to win souls! Shield of faith
Shield of faith
The enemy shoots fiery darts at you, but you can quench these fiery darts with the shield of faith.
Helmet of salvation
Your thought life is a battle field. Assurance of salvation keeps your mind at peace.
Sword of the Spirit
Paul plainly defines the sword of the spirit as the Word of God. By wielding the sword of the Spirit, Jesus defeated the devil who tried to tempt him after Jesus fasted 40 days in the wilderness. So if you wield the sword of the Spirit, the devil will remember his defeat! The word is a sharp sword!
The word is a discerner: it helps you to discern between flesh, soul and spirit. John told the believers that they are able to overcome the enemy because the Word of God dwells in them. As you learn to speak the word, the creative word of God, you will see how your personal circumstances begin to change.
Speak the word of God with faith in your heart instead of describing your circumstances to yourself. You will learn how to put on the girdle of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation and you will put on the shoes of the preparation of the Gospel of Peace.
