Burden Lifter

Burden Lifter
Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser, at Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town
2 January 2022

Here are some revelations that will lift your burdens!
One morning a revelation of the nature of our Lord physically made me feel lighter.
“You are the burden lifter!” was my hearts response which I then shouted out to God. It felt like a splash of cold water in my face on a hot day.

God sends a helper
While Jesus was carrying His cross his body went into hypovolemic shock because of the loss of blood and therefore the oxygen needed to move. Soldiers grabbed a man in the crowd to help Jesus and he carried it further.
While we are laying down our lives for the Lord in different ways, God will always send someone along to help you carry your cross. We reach the end of ourselves regularly in this life, but that is where the burden lifter appears.

One day a friend came to me and said: “God has told me to take this burden off you” he was speaking about the case of our building and the builders that did not finish the job. Just the fact that someone is thinking about how to lighten your burden is a weight off your shoulders. Feeling that no one cares or is praying for you is a heavy weight. When you realize there are more people for you than against you, it lightens the load considerably. Since then God has told us to rise and build and we have finished the second phase towards occupation of the building as a church to God’s glory.

Joh_14:16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
Joh_14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
For us to keep Jesus’ commandments, we need a helper. We need the Holy Spirit to remind us constantly of Jesus’ love for us and the world so that we can fulfil His will in the earth.

Jesus’ Easy yoke, light burden
We have spoken about maturity in the faith and carrying weight in the kingdom of heaven. But the good news is that Jesus says:
“Mat 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Mat 11:30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Jesus’ yoke is to humble ourselves, place our strength under God’s control, and to keep His word –
Luk_8:15 But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.
Luk_11:28 But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

Burdens can be shared
Num 11:16 So the LORD said to Moses: “Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; bring them to the tabernacle of meeting, that they may stand there with you.
Num 11:17 Then I will come down and talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone.
The New Covenant equivalent is similar:
Act_6:3 Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business;
2Ti_2:2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
Tit 1:5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you—
In the church, God appointed the fivefold ministry, and then there are elders and deacons. Bishops are overseers in regions and have presiding functions. There are many functions which include ministry of helps which to a large degree are the ushers in the church. See also Gifts and Functions – a subject available from MBTC.

Deacon: G1249 diakonosdee-ak’-on-os
Probably from διάκω diakō (obsolete, to run on errands; compare G1377); an attendant, that is, (generally) a waiter (at table or in other menial duties); specifically a Christian teacher and pastor (technically a deacon or deaconess): – deacon, minister, servant.

Bishop: G1984 episkopēThayer Definition:
1) investigation, inspection, visitation
1a) that act by which God looks into and searches out the ways, deeds character, of men, in order to adjudge them their lot accordingly, whether joyous or sad
1b) oversight
1b1) overseership, office, charge, the office of an elder
1b2) the overseer or presiding officers of a Christian church

Iniquities are a burden
Psa 38:4 For my iniquities have gone over my head; Like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

Forms of Oppression and slavery are burdens
Psa 81:6 “I removed his shoulder from the burden; His hands were freed from the baskets.

Isa 9:2 The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined.
Isa 9:3 You have multiplied the nation And increased its joy; They rejoice before You According to the joy of harvest, As men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
Isa 9:4 For You have broken the yoke of his burden And the staff of his shoulder, The rod of his oppressor, As in the day of Midian.

Anointing is required to lift and break burdens
Isa_10:27 It shall come to pass in that day That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil. In the New Covenant understanding, the Holy Spirit is the anointing for us. If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you have an anointing within you which can be developed and matured through experience and discipleship. Anointing can be imparted through the laying on of hands of the eldership apostle Paul did for Timothy.

Prophetic burdens
Often the prophets would start by saying “The burden against” whichever nation the Lord was judging. Growing up with apostles and prophets has shown me the weight of prophetic words and the specific type of burden such offices carry for the sake of the Body of Christ. Where most Christians are content to busy themselves with nothing but their own needs and prayer requests, apostles and prophets in particular, have a care for the churches that few understand or ever get to experience. There is a compelling responsibility for the greater body of Christ that shifts them into another gear and it is important to honour them for that.

If you look at each name of God it sounds like a description of a part of his nature. The seven spirits before the throne are seven facets of the Holy Spirit found in the prophecy of Isaiah.

Isa 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.

Jesus’ Name is above all names
As God reveals Himself to you, you gain a deeper knowledge of His nature and indeed His names. The good news is that Jesus has been given the name above all names.
Php 2:9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
Php 2:10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
Php 2:11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Above – G5228 huper (Pronounced: ‘hoop-er’)
A primary preposition; “over”, that is, (with the genitive case) of place, above, beyond, across, or causal, for the sake of, instead, regarding; with the accusative case superior to, more than. In compounds it retains many of the listed applications: – (+ exceeding abundantly) above, in (on) behalf of, beyond, by, + very chiefest, concerning, exceeding (above, -ly), for, + very highly, more (than), of, over, on the part of, for sake of, instead, than, to (-ward), very. In compounds it retains many of the above applications. [Strong’s Concordance.]

So you can call on the name of Jesus instead of referring to all the Old Covenant names of God and it will work! However, knowledge of those facets of God’s nature helps you to know what rich resources and power you can unlock using faith in the name of Jesus!
