Blessings of Brothers in Unity
Blessings of Brothers in Unity
Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser at harvester reformational Church, Cape Town, 13th Jan. 2013
Brothers in Unity
Apostle Andre once said about some brothers in our church: “I seek the blessing that comes from brethren dwelling together in unity.”
It took years of prayers, patience and persuasion but eventually the brothers all came to church together and released a tremendous blessing as they serve God together.
I now have the privilege to welcome my brother to Miracle Bible College this year. We have played cricket together, surfed together and toured the world together, but now there is the added level of spiritual unity.
David understood the Power of Brothers
David has many brothers but they did not always see his potential, especially when it came to killing Goliath. But he sought after that unity and often found it in his mighty men – former outcasts who aligned themselves with his calling during his flight from Saul at places like the cave of Adullam.
1Sa 22:1 David therefore departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. So when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him.
1Sa 22:2 And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him.
A song about Brothers in Unity
Psa 133:1 A Song of Ascents. Of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!
Psa 133:2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, Running down on the beard, The beard of Aaron, Running down on the edge of his garments.
Psa 133:3 It is like the dew of Hermon, Descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the LORD commanded the blessing— Life forevermore.
Spiritual Brothers
There is the spiritual brotherhood that goes beyond blood. Jesus called those who do His will his family.
Blessings of Brothers in Unity
There are blessings that come from brothers in unity that will lift the experience of Church to another level.
- Ascension. Our Big Brother Jesus ascended first so that we can follow Him in the end.
- Good and Pleasant times with brothers in Christ, without sin and shame.
- Anointing rubs off when you spend time with Godly brothers.
We are anointed when we receive the Holy Spirit, but that anointing flows over the whole Body of Christ when we agree and gather together in unity in Jesus name.
Remember the woman with the issue of blood that touched the hem of Jesus’ garment? It is prophetic of the end times, that the anointing will gather and build up for the last release of God’s power through a many membered body – His Church.
- Inclusivity. Is it just for men? There is a scripture that includes male and female, slave and free.
Gal 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
- 5. Prosperity. Dew of Hermon prospers Brothers in Christ.
Brothers in Unity are likened to the influence of Mount Hermon on its surrounding valleys. It has triple summits. We use Summits to gather together in unity and reach new heights of understanding but also to strengthen the cords of love and fellowship in this move of God between brothers and sisters in Christ.
Hermon reaches 9200 feet above sea-level. The Eastern sides of the peaks are “steep and bare” the western slopes are more gradual, the lower reaches are well wooded and as once descends one passes through fruitful vineyards and orchards, finally entering rich fields below. Wildlife includes wolves and leopards a swell as the brown or Syrian bear.
Snow “lies along the summits and shoulders of the mountain”.
Mt. Hermon blesses the land with refreshing breezes and its snows are carried to even Damascus and towns on the seaboard. The Mountain possesses great reservoirs in its depths fed by melting snows and feeds the springs at ?asbeiyeh, Tell el-Ka?y, and Banias. The mountain also causes dew clouds to be carried over the surrounding region, hence King David’s reference to the dew of Hermon descending upon the mountains of Zion bringing forth life forevermore. It is like a constant supply line that will never run dry.
Positioning yourself in God’s Church, unifying the Christian Brotherhood and finding common purpose in Christ releases life giving nourishment that causes all of us to grow and bear good fruit unto God.
- 6. Zion’s Blessings. Brothers in Unity access the blessings of Zion the Church.
Zion is that place of blessing – belonging to the Church of the Firstborn among many brethren. That is where God commands a blessing if brethren are in unity. That is where we access eternal life, in the eternal Church of the Firstborn, registered in heaven. Hebrews 12 is worth another read. There was a time when we first started speaking about the true church in heaven, that I read through Hebrews almost daily until it started to sink in, then we wrote songs about it and sang it over and over again. Then we shared it with others and now we are starting to understand it and it is glorious.
The Key
The key that unlocks the blessings of spiritual brotherhood can be found in the following scripture verse:
Romans 8:29 “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
Jesus Christ is the Firstborn among many brethren.
Heb 2:10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Heb 2:11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,
He sanctifies us so that we can partake of our inheritance together and He is not ashamed to call us his brothers. This is the spiritual level of brotherhood that draws the commanded blessing from God.
