You have carried the burden of apostolic ministry, now enter into the rewards!Arise & Shine Harvester!
Background
Speaking to my wife Chantal about how Cape Town has received the apostolic reformation, in particular, how we’ve been received as a family made us realise that God was busy hiding us for the appropriate time.
Cape Town Division
The demographic layout of our city is one of the reasons why there are so many “pockets of people” in different groups and denominations. In addition to the Christian barriers of denominationalism, there exists a “cut-throat” mentality amongst many ministries resulting in a lot of hurting Christians.
Rest
The cycle of rejection is sustained through ambition and greed, insecurity and a competitive spirit. I often feel a choking sensation when talking to other pastors who do not operate from a position of rest. As pioneers of the apostolic reformation of the church one of the instructions we have received was to “Give My people Rest.”
Part of reaching that position of the rest of faith includes learning contentment as apostle Paul said:
Phi 4:11 Not that I speak according to need, for I have learned to be content in whatever state I am.
Phi 4:12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound. In everything and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Phi 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Phi 4:14 Yet you did well in sharing my troubles.
And in another place he wrote:
(NOTE THE CONTEXT OF THE VERSE DEALING WITH CONTENTMENT – servants are not to abuse the fact that they are Christians in order to gain favour with their masters, or to slack off in their work.)
1Ti 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1Ti 6:7 For we brought nothing into the world, and it is clear that we can carry nothing out.
1Ti 6:8 But having food and clothing, we will be content.
1Ti 6:9 But they who will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which plunge men into destruction and perdition.
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all evils, of which some having lusted after, they were seduced from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
1Ti 6:11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness.
So we prayed and asked God like the scene in Prisoners when Paul and Silas were prohibited by the Spirit to go into Asia: “What’s going on?” (Acts 16:6)
Jean Guyon
Chantal alluded to Madame Guyon’s teachings about the Song of Solomon.
Son 6:7 As a piece of a pomegranate are thy temples within thy locks.
In the MBC Song of Solomon Manual, this verse is described as follows:
“The rind of the pomegranate does not compare to the content of the fruit. Similarly, your beauty and preciousness are concealed from the eyes of the unappreciative. God hides you from the world because He is jealous of you. Instead He seals you up for Himself. You must not be so hidden that you do not reach out to others. In doing so you are humiliated, for He hides you from the admiration of others and will even leet them be offended at by you. So after God has used you for their benefit they will trn away from you.
See the same pattern in Christ’s life. He was there as a stumbling block to the religious and foolishness to the intellectual of His day.
‘Simple believers offend those who are legalistic. The Gospel I simple, but is inwardly known.’
This is the picture of the pomegranate and it is significant to us.”
In addition, once a pomegranate is ripe, the fruit explodes and bursts out into full colour, dispersing the seeds. Remember how Jesus told His disciples to wait? They remained hidden until the opportune time. Then the pomegranate was ripe and bursts! This is like the disciples being sent out by the power of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost throughout the world.
How God hides us for Himself. He has not allowed us to have the recognition of our brothers in Cape Town, and so be it. If He wants that to change, then it will. We can advertise and have fraternal meetings till we are blue in the face, nothing will change. In a sense, a pioneer ministry needs to go through times of separation in order to break open new ground, new routes for others to follow, make a clearing in the jungle so to speak. Later others will walk on roads ignorant of the labours of those who have gone before.
This is the apostolic burden in a sense. Very seldom does one look at a road and think about the toil of those who built it. However, the journey of those who follow is accelerated. God in His infinite wisdom has designed it this way, so He can get the glory! His reward is with Him:
Rewards:
Isa 40:10 Behold, the Lord Jehovah will come with a strong hand, and His arm shall rule for Him; behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him.
Gen 15:1 After these things the Word of Jehovah came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram, I am your shield and your exceeding great reward.
Rth 2:12 May Jehovah repay your work, and may a full reward be given you from Jehovah, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to trust.
Psa 19:8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
Psa 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
Psa 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Psa 19:11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
Psa 127:3 Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward
Mat 6:3 But when you do merciful deeds, do not let your left hand know what your right hand does,
Mat 6:4 so that your merciful deeds may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret Himself shall reward you openly.
Mat 16:27 For the Son of Man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He shall reward each one according to his works.
Luk 6:22 Blessed are you when men shall hate you, and when they shall cut you off, and when they shall reproach you and shall cast out your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.
Luk 6:23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy. For behold, your reward is great in Heaven. For so their fathers did according to these things to the prophets.
Luk 6:35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return. And your reward shall be great, and you shall be the sons of the Highest. For He is kind to the unthankful and to the evil.
1Co 3:7 So then neither is he who plants anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.
1Co 3:8 So he planting, and he watering, are one, and each one shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
1Co 3:14 If anyone's work which he built remains, he shall receive a reward.
1Co 3:15 If anyone's work shall be burned up, he shall suffer loss. But he shall be saved, yet so as by fire.
1Co 9:18 What then is my reward? That when I preach the gospel I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that
