A sword for every soldier

A Sword For Every Soldier

Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser

Kingstanding Methodist Church Friday 24th June

Parallels in the account of Jonathan and his armour-bearer that will help us subdue our enemy and conquer for Jesus

1 Samuel 13:3, 16; 1 Sam. 14  – read for the full account.

Identify your oppressor and his tactics

Philistines did not allow any Israelite to carry a sword. Only King Saul had a sword.

1 Samuel 13:3 – Jonathan attacks the garrison of the Philistines

?3? And Jonathan attacked ?d?the garrison of the Philistines that was in ?e?Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. Then Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, “Let the Hebrews hear!” ?4? Now all Israel heard it said that Saul had attacked a garrison of the Philistines, and that Israel had also become ?2?an abomination to the Philistines. And the people were called together to Saul at Gilgal.

?5? Then the Philistines gathered together to fight with Israel, ?3?thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen, and people ?f?as the sand which is on the seashore in multitude. And they came up and encamped in Michmash, to the east of ?g?Beth Aven. ?6? When the men of Israel saw that they were in danger (for the people were distressed), then the people ?h?hid in caves, in thickets, in rocks, in holes, and in pits. ?7? And some of the Hebrews crossed over the Jordan to the ?i?land of Gad and Gilead.

The Philistine garrison was positioned in Geba

Geba — the hill, a Levitical city ofBenjamin on the north border ofJudah near Gibeah

On the extreme range of your praise and worship of God, the devil positions himself, elevates himself above God and you need to break through there!

Judahpraise, the fourth son of Jacob by Leah. The name originated in Leah’s words of praise to the Lord on account of his birth: “Now will I praise [Heb. odeh] Jehovah, and she called his name Yehudah” (Gen. 29:35). [2]

Become a Spiritual Blacksmith through Meditation

There were no blacksmiths to make swords – no mentors that understand how to draw revelation form the Word of God, thus activating the Sword of the Spirit

Agreement empowers your spiritual swords

Jonathan had faith to use the Sword he had and trusted in God

He had agreement from his armour-bearer

Use Testimony as a weapon

We too overcome by the word of our testimony – the Word of God made flesh in our lives

By the blood of the Lamb – we are covered by Jesus blood

Not living our lives to the death – they weren’t afraid to die

Rev 12:11

Position yourself in the Rock – Christ!

They surprised the enemy and were positioned right to fight

We need to know our position in Christ and fight from that position

Ephesians 2:4

?4? But God, ?i?who is rich in mercy, because of His ?j?great love with which He loved us, ?5? ?k?even when we were dead in trespasses, ?l?made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), ?6? and raised us up together, and made us sit together ?m?in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,[3]
