What are you anointed to do?

The Greek concept of anointing is not so much the idea of smearing oil that flows easily, but rather the fact that contact is made with some other person: ?chrio? shows that there is a definite connection with a power source that equips someone with ability to accomplish what cannot be accomplished otherwise. Jesus Christ was anointed by God with the Holy Ghost and power to go about and heal all that were oppressed of the devil. He was connected with God through the anointing. The anointing breaks the yoke of the devil, of sin, of sickness and disease!What are you anointed to do?

I dreamt last night (2003/03/01) how a man spoke to me concerning the anointing and that I felt compassion to go to nations and heal the sick. In the dream I affirmed my anointing: ?I am anointed to go and heal the people.?
God also anointed me to raise a standard for Him wherever I go.

Isaiah 59:19
19 So shall they fear
The name of the Lord from the west,
And His glory from the rising of the sun;
When the enemy comes in like a flood,
The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.

A drop of blood fell from nowhere onto that verse as I was agonizing in prayer about R102 000 for our Soshanguve Tent Campaign in March 1991. The whole amount was supernaturally supplied eventually. But in a sense I sweated blood?
The Lord also anointed me to make the message plain: to take difficult passages of Scripture and show the people what God has revealed to me. He has given me the skill of Daniel: to understand the message.

Daniel 9:24
24 ?Seventy weeks are determined
1 For your people and for your holy city,
To finish the transgression,
To make an end of sins,
To make reconciliation for iniquity,
To bring in everlasting righteousness,
To seal up vision and prophecy,
And to anoint the Most Holy.

I am also an anointed musician ? especially to play the Hammond Organ.

Isaiah 10:27
27 It shall come to pass in that day
That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder,
And his yoke from your neck,
And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.
The anointing breaks the yoke ? makes it look easy! If you are anointed to do something others think it is easy to copy, but they cannot do it.

Acts 10:38
38 ?how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
The Hebrew terminology for anointing is ?mashak?: it means to smear, spread a liquid for consecration.

Isaiah 61:1-3
?The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
1 Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
3 To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.?

The Greek concept of anointing is not so much the idea of smearing oil that flows easily, but rather the fact that contact is made with some other person: ?chrio? shows that there is a definite connection with a power source that equips someone with ability to accomplish what cannot be accomplished otherwise. Jesus Christ was anointed by God with the Holy Ghost and power to go about and heal all that were oppressed of the devil. He was connected with God through the anointing. The anointing breaks the yoke of the devil, of sin, of sickness and disease!

The Greek word ?chraomai? from which we get ?chrio? speaks of a loan given that can be used for a specific purpose! The anointing is given to use for a purpose ? not to enjoy goose bumps and spend it on your own enjoyment. It makes you a channel of blessing and a servant of all. You are standing in the place of the Master to do what He would have done at that moment if he had still been on the earth. It is a fearful but wonderful place.

That is why God is jealous of those whom He has anointed and He warns others not to touch His anointed:

1 Chronicles 16:22
22 Saying, ?Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.?

A further extension of the meaning of the word anointing in Greek is ?cheir? that refers to God revealing Himself through someone. God sanctifies the one He uses so that the power that created the universe can flow through that vessel. This power can be used for healing, protection and divine provision but also for punishment. Through this power God directs the destinies of men and women. It is an awesome responsibility to be anointed of God. It symbolizes the hand of God resting on someone. Through the agency of God it becomes possible to do what you are anointed to do. (Strong?s 5495)
?Cheim? is a root word in the building blocks of the Greek word for anointing and it refers to a channel through which a storm passes! The rushing of the anointing is like a divine storm that comes to destroy the work of the evil one! (5494) The word ?chasma? gives a picture of a chasm or an opening (also a wide open mouth like when someone yawns!). So God tells us to open our mouths and He will fill it! God is looking for a space in our busy lives that He can fill with His anointing! He is looking for an entry point in our lives so that His power can be manifested through us to help other people. Oh, if only we can grasp this significance: if we can only see His hand extended towards us.

1 John 3:8
8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

Because of this anointing however, there will always be persecution as well. We need to recognize this fact. Throughout the Bible any anointed character was always persecuted and hated by others. Because the anointing singles you out it draws criticism, jealousy and hatred of others.

1 Peter 4:12-14
12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you;13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ?s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.

Cain & Able, Esau & Jacob, Joseph and his brothers, David & Saul, David & Absolom, Daniel and the 120 Satraps who wanted to kill him. Samson and the Philistines, Gideon and the Medianites ? it is an endless list! In the New Testament we see Jesus being persecuted like Moses, almost from birth! Saul of Tarsus first persecuted the church and then was persecuted for the Gospel?s sake. Peter & James persecuted by Herod just like John the Baptist. John was exiled to Patmos ? but even there the anointing created opening in heavenly visions for him that we are still reading today in the book of Revelation!

The power that comes through the anointing, through connecting with God in the Spirit, is ?dunamis?:
1411 dunamis { doo?-nam-is}
1) strength power, ability
1a) inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or
