Service Type:

Transfiguration
Part of the Become a Harvester Series, by Apostle Aje Pelser, Harvester Reformational Church.

Based on notes from the Life of Christ by Dr Roy M. Gray, Journey 34.
Scripture References: Matt. 17:1-8; Mark 9:2-8; Luke 9 : 28-36
Transfigurations of your inward nature of Christ in the outward world.

Quick Summary of Jesus’ ministry:
Jesus often rose early to pray in the hills.
Mark’s. “Great while before day”, “he prayed”,
Jesus was often “casting out demons”. Mark emphasizes this aspect of Jesus’ ministry in his Gospel.
Came forth from the Father, from heaven to earth;
Luke’s “was sent for this purpose” to preach The gospel of “the kingdom of God”.
” …those who were with him”, refers to Jesus taking His disciples with him when He ministered.
Matthew describes Jesus as “teaching … preaching … healing”; extent of His influence given – “all Syria”; the tremendous crowds of sick people of all descriptions brought to Jesus. On one occasion there were about 5000 men, not counting women and children. Matthew 4.25 gives the scope of His ministry, a territory 5000 square miles in extent.
Jesus notably healed all forms of diseases
“ …full of leprosy”, or “covered with leprosy” (Berk. , NEB), “far gone in leprosy” (Knox).
“ …moved with compassion”, or “pity”.
“ …touched him.”
A third class condition (introduced by “if”) indicates that the condition is unfulfilled, i.e. the man is not sure of the condition, “if you are willing”. It is not, “if you are willing (and I am sure you are)”, but “if you are willing (which I am not sure of)”. Beck (New Testament in the Language of Today) has, “if you want to”, and Goodspeed, “if only you choose, sir, you can cure me.
Jesus removed in the if in people’s thinking. I am willing be cleansed. He never rejected a cry for help.

Transfigurations to pray for:
1. Lifestyle of Prayer.
Jesus had a lifestyle of prayer. He did not go to the mountain to be transfigured, it happened as a result of his lifetime connection with the Father and living out his calling to perfection.
2. Identify inner circles of disciples
He took his disciples with him to minister and sometimes to pray with him.
He developed hi inner circle of disciples. There are concentric circles of influence, or orbits in your galaxy.
3. Understand Christ in the law and the Prophets.
Jesus came to fulfil the law and the prophecies concerning the suffering Messiah.
He found the place where it was written concerning His ministry. He knew How God had anointed Him and what he needed to do for God. We can also find out His purpose for us: to be confirmed to the image of His Son in our framework of life.
“In the volume of the book it is written of me. To do Your will O God.”
Heb 10:7 THEN I SAID, ‘BEHOLD, I HAVE COME— IN THE VOLUME OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME— TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.’ ”
Look at the corresponding reference in Psalms:
Psa 40:7 Then I said, “Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me.
Psa 40:8 I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.”
Psa 40:9 I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness In the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O LORD, You Yourself know.
Psa 40:10 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth From the great assembly.

Understand the law and the prophets and how they speak to us today – see the life of Christ in every commandment, and prophecy.
Moses and Elijah reminded Jesus of His decease.
Act 3:18 But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled.
Luk 24:44 Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”
Luk 24:45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
Luk 24:46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,
Luk 24:47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luk 24:48 And you are witnesses of these things.
Luk 24:49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
Act 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

4. We are living sacrifices too. The metamorphosis happens daily:
Romans 12:1,2
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Same word used in Matthew 17:2 as in Romans 12:2
Transfigured / Transformed: G3339 metamorphoō
“met-am-or-fo’-o”
From G3326 and G3445; to transform (literally or figuratively “metamorphose”): – change, transfigure, transform.

5. Pray for enlightenment so we can shine for Jesus as transfigured lights: Eph 1:18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
Eph 1:19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power
Eph 1:20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,
