The Secret Power of Contentment
Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser
Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town, 30th March 2025

Php 4:11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:

If you can learn contentment at each phase of your life, you will experience kingdom peace, faith-filled joy and constant right standing with God.

The effects of contentment on a believer’s faith walk:

It starts with deciding to follow Jesus His way:
1. Being Contentment here: Mat 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
a. G533 “aparneomai” Thayer Definition:
b. to deny; to affirm that one has no acquaintance or connection with someone
c. to forget one’s self, lose sight of one’s self and one’s own interests

2. Contentment transcends circumstances and any emotional state.
3. Pursue Godliness with contentment and God will protect you:
1Ti 6:6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain
1Ti 6:11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
1Ti 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
In sound engineering, ‘gain’ amplifies the signal from the source.” When we operate in Godliness with contentment – it amplifies the signal of the source of Christ within us, the hope of glory!

4. Contentment unlocks Christ in you – you can do all things through Christ Who Strengthens you! Phil 4:13

5. Contentment helps you care of others and share in their distress without losing your faith. Jesus was content to risk his reputation and health to cleanse a leper:
Mar 1:40 Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.”
Mar 1:41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”
Mar 1:42 As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.

6. Contentment seeks fruit, in your own life and others as well. Joh 15:8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

7. Contentment reciprocates: Php 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

8. Contentment takes the time to connect – greet every saint!
Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,
Heb 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

9. Contentment is seen in households because of believers who operate in Godly contentment despite their office and lot in life.
1Co 16:15 I urge you, brethren—you know the household of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints—
1Co 16:16 that you also submit to such, and to everyone who works and labors with us.

Learn whatever state you are in to be content.
