Thanksgiving for God’s Glorious Works

Passage: Psa 111:2-6
Service Type:

Thanksgiving Sunday 26th Nov 2023
Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town
Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser

We honour the Lord today as a church and ministry around the world, giving thanks to Him for His honourable and glorious works in and through us!
We recall the Tabernacle of David and how he thanks the Lord continually through his Psalms:
Psa 111:1 Praise the LORD! I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, In the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.
Psa 111:2 The works of the LORD are great, Studied by all who have pleasure in them.
Psa 111:3 His work is honourable and glorious, And His righteousness endures forever.
Psa 111:4 He has made His wonderful works to be remembered; The LORD is gracious and full of compassion.
Psa 111:5 He has given food to those who fear Him; He will ever be mindful of His covenant.
Psa 111:6 He has declared to His people the power of His works, In giving them the heritage of the nations.

Characteristics of the Works of God are:
• Glorious;
• Righteous;
• wonderful;
• memorable;
• gracious;
• compassionate.

When Jesus was moved with compassion, He shepherded them and taught them many things. Then He fed the 5000. In addition – He also healed the sick.
Mar 6:34 “ And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things.” Mat_20:34 So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.
Mar_1:41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”

There is also one specific Hebrew Praise word that is relevant today as we thank the Lord for the year past and trust Him for the year ahead:
Todah:
8426 To extend the hands in sacrifice of praise, or thank offering.

It is a confession of thankful praise inferring sacrifice. Used only a few times when in connection with thanksgiving.
Neh. 12:31,38,40; 2 Chron. 29:31; 33:16
This word was used when Hezekiah called for a sacrifice to restore temple worship in his nation. We are at such a point where we can restore daily worship in our new church base of operations in Burgundy Estate too!
