Origins of Faith: Blessings

Faith Origins of Blessings
Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser, Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town. 7th May 2023

Overview of blessing in our lives:
Blessings are commanded from one generation to another. God places it in the heart of a patriarch, or father of faith to transfer those blessings onto the next generation who are worthy of those blessings and have been put to the test, to see if their faith measure can handle the blessings. God is busy stretching your capacity because you have to carry a generational blessing forward.

Moving forward cannot happen unless you are blessed by God and the generation that has gone before you in faith. I have received such a blessing from my parents and other respected leaders whom I respect in my life. It took 45 years to receive that blessing, and it didn’t come cheap. I have worked in faith and laboured in love by the power of the Holy Spirit, made mistakes and learnt from them, repented of my sins and sought counsel when I needed to and continue to do so.

The point is that you realize God has a plan for your life and that you need to align yourself with plan daily.
Keep your prophecies close at hand. Meditate on the words that have defined your walk of faith and access the grace of the mentors I your life on various platforms.

Your eyes will behold your teachers, your ears will hear a word behind you, saying: This is the way, walk in it!”

The blessing on those who wait for Him:
Isa 30:18 Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.
Isa 30:19 For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; You shall weep no more. He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry; When He hears it, He will answer you.
Isa 30:20 And though the Lord gives you The bread of adversity and the water of affliction, Yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore, But your eyes shall see your teachers.
Isa 30:21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.

Origins of Blessing scriptures:
Gen_1:22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

Blessed means the following: BDB Definition:
H559 אמר ‘âmar
• to say, speak, utter
• to say, to answer, to say in one’s heart, to think, to command, to promise, to intend
• to be told, to be said, to be called
• to boast, to act proudly
• to avow, to avouch
• Part of Speech: verb

Blessing is giving by God’s command, and it has to be spoken:
H1288 בָּרַךְ bârak {pronounced: baw-rak’)
A primitive root; to kneel; by implication to bless God (as an act of adoration),
and (vice-versa) man (as a benefit);
also (by euphemism) to curse (God or the king, as treason): –
abundantly, altogether, at all,
blaspheme, bless, congratulate, curse,
greatly, indeed,
kneel (down), praise, salute, still, thank.

God blesses our dominion on earth:
Gen_1:28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

God blesses rest:
Gen_2:3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

God blesses male and femaie:
Gen_5:2 He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created.

The same blessing was transferred to Noah and his family
Gen_9:1 So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.
Gen_9:26 And he said: “Blessed be the LORD, The God of Shem, And may Canaan be his servant.

The blessing of the Lord on Abraham
Gen_12:3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

God sent a King and Priest to bless Abraham, so that the blessing could continue throughout his line all the way through Jesus Christ and to us.
Gen_14:19 And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth;
Gen_14:20 And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all.

God also blessed Ishmael.
Gen_17:20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.
Gen_18:18 since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

The Messianic blessing of Abraham’s Seed, Jesus Christ
Gen_22:18 In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “AND TO YOUR SEED,” who is Christ.

Blessing takes care of you in old age as well:
Gen_24:1 Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.

Jacob passes on the blessings of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to Joseph:
Gen 49:22 “Joseph is a fruitful bough, A fruitful bough by a well; His branches run over the wall.
Gen 49:23 The archers have bitterly grieved him, Shot at him and hated him.
Gen 49:24 But his bow remained in strength, And the arms of his hands were made strong By the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob (From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),
Gen 49:25 By the God of your father who will help you, And by the Almighty who will bless you With blessings of heaven above, Blessings of the deep that lies beneath, Blessings of the breasts and of the womb.
Gen 49:26 The blessings of your father Have excelled the blessings of my ancestors, Up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. They shall be on the head of Joseph, And on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.

We understand this blessing as an apostolic people, who have pioneered a new move of God in the earth, and we receive the blessings of Joseph as a church in Cape Town.

We extend that blessing of our companions in the move and we see how the Lord has anchored us by a well of eternal springs of living water. Our branches grow over walls of culture and denominational barriers.

We were grieved by the archers, slandered, boycotted, cut off at times, but God has decided to bless us.

We commence with the next phase of our building this month by His grace, and we continue to live out our calling and commission to go to the nations, and our command to love, because God has ordained us to establish His kingdom by building churches and bible training centres and creating resources that will equip the next generation to finish what we started and beyond.

We give Him all the glory for blessings come upon the crown of those who are willing to be separate from their brothers for a time, to preserve their family’s future and fulfil God’s plan for a nation.
