How God Anointed Jesus
By Apostle Andre Pelser
Preached 3rd April at Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town

Introduction by Apostle Aje Pelser
Here is great Sermon by my Dade that we worked through this morning to help discover how we are anointed. When we look into His Mirror of His Word, we see ourselves. The wonderful thing about a mirror is that the viewer can only see themselves. James 1:23-25
The Word is personal. Jesus understood which scriptures spoke about him, because he found the place where it was written about him in the prophet Isiah’s writing. “In the volume of the book it is written of me to do Your Will O God” Hebrews 10:7.
Another interesting revelation to us is that the Truth releases anointing. When Jesus – who is the Truth personified – is proclaimed, it sets people free – that Christ anointing starts to flow as we preach the Good News, the Truth of His Word. Many people received a powerful flow of anointing in their lives this morning. A Lady’s neck was healed as God’s truth ministered to her about forgiveness, as we obeyed Jesus to lay hands on the sick and speak the Truth – BY His stripes You are healed, the anointing breaks the yoke! Glory to God!

Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and power who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil for God was with Him.

Here are some clarifications to remove all doubt about divine anointing
1. God anointed Jesus in a certain way
2. God anointed Jesus of Nazareth, a certain place
3. God anointed Jesus with Spiritual power
4. God anointed Jesus to heal the oppressed
5. God anointed Jesus and was with Him

If we know how God anointed us we have confidence that the anointing will break the yoke (Isaiah 27:3)

Jesus was sure about His anointing and announced it during his first sermon in his home town, Nazareth:
Luke 4:18
Jesus Was anointed to do the following:
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me for He has anointed Me to
1. Preach the Gospel to the poor
2. To open blind eyes
3. To heal the broken hearted
4. To set the captives free
5. To bring liberty to those who are bound
6. To announce the acceptable year of the Lord

So when Jesus saw a blind man that desired his sight, it was easy for Jesus to say, ‘Let it be according to your faith: see!’ because He was anointed to do so.

But the mistake we made was to limit God’s anointing to Sunday Church meetings. God’s anointing is far reaching – it touches every sphere of society.

Apostle John had some insights into the anointing and said:
I John 2:27
The anointing you have received from the Holy One abides within you and will teach you concerning all things.

All things are covered by the anointing of God.

What God has anointed you for makes your task easy. The anointing breaks the yoke. You cannot do what someone else can; you can do what you are anointed to do. There are different ways of being anointed so that you can be yourself and operate in your own anointing.

I remember Aje saying, when he broke the U/19 Boys 110 Metre Hurdles record at the Tri-Athlon between Bishops, Rondebosch and Sacs when he was only 17: ‘When I run so fast I feel the anointing!’

In Chariots of Fire, the Scotsman that refused to run on a Sunday at the Olympic Games because he felt he had to honour the day of the Lord, was only allowed to run in the 400 metre event which he never trained for. But God honours those who honour Him and He won the gold medal. He told his sister: ‘when I run fast, I sense the glory of God!’

He became a missionary and a martyr.

God has to anoint you to do what He has designed you to do. All machinery needs oil! So does our spiritual machinery!

If we make peace with ‘How’ God anointed us, we no longer compare ourselves with each other, we have joy in what we are called to do and we escape the trap of envy and jealousy through selfish ambition.

The anointing abides within – people make the mistake of going to look for it somewhere. They want someone to anoint them to get that person’s anointing – this is Old Covenant mind-set at work. The New Covenant says the anointing abides within and will teach you!

The anointing teaches you concerning all things! It can teach you to cook, to speak French, to surf, to do maths, to be a president of a country, to pastor a church, to make your first million, to go to other lands.

God has anointed me to go to other lands according to the prophecy I received when I was 12 years old. It looks easy. It is not easy. Try to emulate what I am doing and you will find out it is not easy. But for me it is easy – I get no jet lag and climate and time zones no longer affect me. I am anointed to go to other lands.

I am anointed to preach to the poor – not everyone can do that. Most preachers want to preach to the rich to get good offerings. Where I go I get no offerings and if I do it hardly covers the next meal. Unless you are anointed to preach to the poor it will frustrate you and you will leave the ministry!

How has God anointed you? What do you do that comes so easily that it almost seems effortless? The anointing will teach you. The anointing abides within.

You do not have to pray like David in the Old Testament, ‘Lord never take your spirit from me,’ because the anointing abides within you in the New Covenant – it will never leave you!

You have to learn to stir up the anointing that is already within you. You stir it up by praying in the Holy Ghost, by meditating in the Word till it opens up to you, by having divine fellowship with God and other believers, by worshipping God in spirit and truth and by doing the will of God.

Summary of Ways to Stir up the Anointing:
1. You stir it up by praying in the Holy Ghost,
2. by meditating in the Word till it opens up to you,
3. by having divine fellowship with God and other believers,
4. by worshipping God in spirit and truth and
5. by doing the will of God.

Jesus said, ‘I have food to eat that you know little about. My food is to do the will of Him that sent Me and to finish His work.’ When we do the will of God it sustains us like spiritual food. It keeps us young and makes us strong. John 4:34

Consider what I am saying and the Spirit will give you understanding.

Andre Pelser.
