Tips for Building from Nehemiah
By Apostle Aje Pelser, Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town

Here are some tips that will finish the building process:

1. Compassion for God’s house, His City, His People
Nehemiah was sad. The king asked him why?
The word sad in Hebrew holds a few meanings that interest me:
One meaning is to be displeasing and sad
The other is to be broken and shattered into pieces.
Nehemiah’s heart looked like the state of his people, Jerusalem’s walls were broken and the temple was in ruins.
Neh 2:3 and said to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should my face not be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire?”

In this time people tend to reason away emotion and find superficial solutions.
When we get real about how we feel about God, our families, the city we live in, the church God is raising up, then things will start to happen. Until then everything remains in a pseudo state of ‘fine” where nothing ever happens.

2. Make an enquiry of the state of building.
Neh 1:2 that Hanani one of my brethren came with men from Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who had survived the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
Neh 1:3 And they said to me, “The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”

3. Use reports to paint a picture of the state of building
Neh 1:3
great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”
The reason for distress and reproach is that the walls are broken down, there are no gates. Fix them! Rebuild them! These would seem obvious – but the enemy likes to keep us down and exposed, defenceless.
Spiritually we can see the broken walls in our lives that need rebuilding. The enemy has the same access point to our emotions, gets us down every time in that area – turn your sadness into an opportunity to build.

4. Use times of mourning and fasting to focus your spirit to build p positive strongholds.
Neh 1:4 So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

5. Confess the sins of the people and include yourself in the prayer.
Neh 1:6 please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned.
Neh 1:7 We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses.

6. Remind God of His covenant
Neh 1:8 Remember, I pray, the word that You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations;
Neh 1:9 but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name.’

7. Recognize that God has chosen you as a dwelling for His Name

8. Request what you need form the King.
Neh 2:4 Then the king said to me, “What do you request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven.

This means different things to me:
The King of Kings is Jesus Christ Our Lord. We have access to the kingdom and the provisions from every orbit in the kingdom for God’s purposes. But sometimes we have to approach kings in the world and make a request boldly so that we can do God’s work. Kings in this sense means kings of business that seek to support God’s work.

9. Become a Sent One with the King’s favour.
Neh 2:5 And I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may rebuild it.”
We are sent ones understanding that we are emissaries, ambassadors of a heavenly kingdom on earth. But there is also accountability. When we receive favour and resources, there is a reckoning that helps us to respect the moment and the resources. Accurate reporting and timelines help us to build.

10. Set a time for the building to be completed and trust the Lord to bring it to pass.
Neh 2:6 Then the king said to me (the queen also sitting beside him), “How long will your journey be? And when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
When we were still struggling to see how God would help us raise funds for the Building of the Church at Burgundy Estate, the Holy Spirit comforted me with this: “The Church will be built in no time…”
That is a curious way of putting it – but what it meant was we will not even notice time flying by as we build. Before we know it will go up. Looking back at the process, I am starting to understand what the Holy Spirit was saying. It feels like a dream and the time is at hand to finish and wake up and worship God for a miracle!

11. Handle the Opposition.
There will be opposition to Building like in Nehemiah’s time.
But rejoice that you are in good company and refute the letters of accusation and comply with all the legal processes using the same faith that you use for provision. Building is a step of faith for every church and God provides the measure of faith to complete it, or He will not let you start.

We are at this juncture in our lives where we can build a church debt free so that the next generation can continue with God’s covenant on another level of existence. Our Church will serve as a Congregational Service Headquarters that will Live Stream to all nations and partners; a training facility that will see saints equipped and sent out; a Broadcasting TV Studio that will produce resources for ministry reforming hearts of mind for the kingdom of God. There will be a place for people to meet and have coffee and linger in an atmosphere that is Godly and full of the love of Jesus bringing in the harvest; children will be taught the word and how to worship; the Bible will be taught daily at Miracle Bible College with state of the art technology and Wi-Fi enabling students to research and study; The 6000 households of the community at Burgundy will receive a blessing spiritually that will influence the entire region; a city wide church will gather for momentum occasions that will affect new church and Bible College plants throughout the city; Important Summits and Leadership training along with prophetic schools will shift the spiritual frequency of Cape Town, and with the use of media reach the entire world with the Good News. We decree these things in Jesus mighty name!

12. Finish the Job!
Neh 6:15 So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days.
Neh 6:16 And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things, that they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was done by our God.
When the finish is attained – we can praise and worship the Lord for a week! This is my vow to the Lord – if He will help us build the Church and finish it, I will make sure to set up a week of Praise and Worship unto God at the Church!

This sounds like fun to me and I am looking forward to it! It is an open invitation to all who love to Worship God too! Can’t wait!

The appointments in the Church will be made from those who fear God:
Neh 7:1 Then it was, when the wall was built and I had hung the doors, when the gatekeepers, the singers, and the Levites had been appointed,
Neh 7:2 that I gave the charge of Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the leader of the citadel, for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.

In order to finish the Job of Harvester Reformational Church Building at Burgundy Estate, will still need to raise around 65 Building Units. Let’s do that quickly and those who have made pledges should fulfil their vows quickly and without delay – this is the dwelling where God can place His name until our work is done and Jesus comes. It is a strategic epoch making period that we are entering as a church and God has chosen us to represent Him in the nations – it is an honour to have a home base that can equip the saints for the work of the ministry, can send and receive missionaries to reach the entire world, and be a place of worship and Bible training above all else. We will not rent it out for other uses – it is consecrated wholly for the purposes of God and His Church, we are actually that busy with God’s work on a daily basis that the Church building will not have other activities during the week. And yet people will come there to find rest for their souls! We will continue to seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness Peace and Joy!

See you there Lord Willing soon!
