The message from the evening service.
The Bible gives us hope for overcoming anything in this world: John wrote in his epistle: ‘Greater is He who is in you than He who is in the world.’
I John 4:4-6
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. [1]
In the Kingdom of God the little children overcome the world because they have a greater One living inside of them. It is the Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit of the Living God. The Holy Spirit reveals the truth to us. The Holy Spirit is not a spirit of error. And those who are of God hear the truth. When we preach the truth those who are of God hears us. The world cannot hear God’s voice because they do not have the Holy Spirit. They first have to be born again so that they have the Spirit of Truth.
Jesus obtained this remarkable feat on our behalf.
Hebrews 9:11, 12
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.[2]
The heavenly tabernacle is greater than the tabernacle Moses erected in the wilderness for the Jews. Moses’ tabernacle was a copy of the heavenly tabernacle.
Which is greater: the real thing or a copy of the real thing?
The real tabernacle is not made with man’s hands. It is an eternal tabernacle and Jesus entered that tabernacle with His own blood that He shed on Calvary for the remission of our sins. There he obtained eternal redemption for us!
What a glorious revelation the writer of Hebrews had!
In the Old Covenant the High Priest had to enter every year into the holy place to obtain forgiveness of sins for the people. But he could not make himself free from sin nor could he make the people free. It was a covering. The blood of bulls and goats was simply a covering for the sins of the people. He could not perfect either himself or the people. But Christ perfected both Himself and those who put their trust in Him.
Then Christ asked the Father to send the Holy Spirit to those who believe in Him. The Holy Spirit came to take up residence within our spirits. He is inside of us. He is greater than he who is in the world.
So no matter what you face in the world, the Holy Spirit is greater! He can help you overcome anything in this world.
If you have to overcome sin; He can do it.
If you have to overcome sickness, He can do it.
If you have to overcome rejection, He can help you do it.
If you have to overcome persecution, He is able to help you overcome.
Even though we are ‘little children’ we can overcome the world.
We overcome the world by our faith in Christ Jesus.
If you have to overcome your own weaknesses, He provides the necessary strength to do it.
If you need strength of mind to overcome a battle in your mind, He can do it.
If you have to overcome hurts in your emotions, He can do it.
If you have to overcome a broken heart, He can heal the broken hearted because Jesus was anointed to heal the broken hearted and set the captive free!
He is greater than the poverty you face.
He is greater than the hardships you go through.
He is greater than your iniquities.
He is greater than your failures.
He is greater than all the things that try to overcome you.
Greater is He who is in you than he that is in the world!
We have a great Redeemer and He gives great redemption!
God is greater than what you fear.
God is greater than what people try to do to you.
God is greater than your disappointments!
God is greater than your grief.
God is greater than your ambition and He can do what none other can ever do!
Have you any rivers that you think are uncrossable?
Have you any rivers that you can’t tunnel through?
God specializes in things thought impossible
And He can do what no other power can ever do!
Have you affliction that you think is incurable
In spite of what the doctors can do
God specializes in things thought impossible
