Full Access
Preached as part of a Truth Series based in Ephesians, By Apostle Aje Pelser
Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town
What would you say if I told you that you have full access to all God has for you?
I suppose a response would be: “Then how does that access work? And to what then do I have access?”
It’s like getting a new computer and you read through the new benefits and components, but then you actually have to switch it on, get connected to the internet and download the drivers, software and access the servers that allow you to perform the necessary functions with that device.
Access is meaningless without connectivity and exploration of function.
Learning that Jesus has prepared a church body for you is one thing, exploring what that means and actually connecting with others in Christ is the full access experience.
Eph 2:18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
Eph 2:19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,
Eph 2:20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,
Eph 2:21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,
Eph 2:22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
What if I’ve had a bad experience in church before?
Part of having full access is learning to confront past hurts and emotions about church. Let the Lord Jesus heal your broken heart so that the Devil can’t rob you of the benefits of full access to the church.
This can happen on a micro and macro level. In the local and global church.
Some churches are so isolated because they have suffered mistreatment in denominations and networks. That doesn’t mean you never relate to another church again, that is actually impossible. God is showing us His “whole building, fitted together, growing into a holy temple in the Lord.” We can align ourselves with Christianity and still maintain our mandate and identity as a church, if we keep to the principles of Acts 2:42 which includes continuing in the apostle’s doctrine, breaking of bread, fellowship and prayers.
God makes it more personal:
“In Whom YOU are also being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”
It is essential to understand that the Holy Spirit gives you access through Jesus to the Father, into the household of God.”
So here are three levels of access to the church:
1. Personal – you are a temple of the Holy Spirit.
1Co 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
How do you treat a temple?
What is contaminating your temple at the moment?
Who is the Lord of your temple?
Which chambers of your temple need some de-cluttering?
Sometimes it is good to remind ourselves that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. I have found great friendship with the Holy Spirit through a lifetime of missions and moving away from familiar places into the unknown. The Holy Spirit s a great guide into truth and is always available.
2. Local corporate – your local body of believers that care for each other the community, gathering together as in the early church – Acts 20:20 “publicly and from house to house.” Apostle Paul explaining to the Ephesians:
Act 20:20 how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house,
Act 20:21 testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Commitment to one another releases your full access to the body of Christ. Regular gathering together in Church publicly is essential to gaining full access to the benefits of our Lord Jesus, the Head of the Church:
Heb 10:19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
Heb 10:20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
Heb 10:21 and having a High Priest over the house of God,
Heb 10:22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,
Heb 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
3. Eternal Church of the Firstborn registered in heaven, of which all Christ-centred churches are a part.
Heb 12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels,
Heb 12:23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,
Heb 12:24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.
Apostle Paul speaks about the greater household of faith:
Gal 6:6 Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.
Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
Gal 6:8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
Gal 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Gal 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
There is a subtle principle of reciprocity and commitment here that the Apostle introduces to the Galatian believers. I have seen in my life, how when I have helped the cause of the house of God, both locally and globally through missions and networking, that the Lord has also helped my household. There is something I do when it comes to paying my own house monthly – I have a place where I kneel and thank God for His provision. He is faithful! God’s nature is Faithful and True. He cannot deny Himself and lives up to that nature every day for uses a faithful and loving Father.
You have full access to the love and faithfulness of the Father. In addition, that nature is accessible to you too for your life and relationships.
The fruit of the Spirit is accessible to you.
The gifts of the Spirit are accessible to you.
The windows of heaven are open for you to step through and gain the favour and blessing of the Lord on what you are doing on this earth, as it aligns with His hope and calling for your life, in the context of a church, in the greater context of the global universal church of the Firstborn, registered in heaven.
Wheels within wheels working together to move in one direction as the Spirit moves.
Are you ready for your full access?
Prayer:
Father God, I come boldly to your throne of grace to find mercy and help in my time of need. I give you full access to my life and declare my spirit, soul and body a temple of the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit have full access into every chamber of my heart. Jesus be the Lord of my temple and remove all false gods and idols of stubbornness and rebellion to God’s ways. Help me relate to other Christians in your local body of believers and gain full access of the benefits of a local church community in love and care and function to fulfil my calling too. Help us align ourselves as a church to the greater body of Christ, realizing that we are all gaining full access to the church of the Firstborn, registered in heaven.
In Jesus name. Amen!
